Lexington Away

It was cold, extra windy, and grey today.  I needed to fly the owner and his wife to Kentucky today, and since D wasn't going to come along for once, I was able to invite one of my students to do it.  I asked Morgan, as she was the only one of this "generation" of students of mine that hadn't gotten an opportunity to do something like this.  She skipped a school class to do it but said it was worth it.  I did the first leg, with the passengers, flew us up to FL190, landed at Lexington, and we went in and got gas even though we didn't need it, so she could get a view of corporate pilot life.  We went to the pilot's lounge, went through the facility, I showed her how stuff worked in there.  She thought it was pretty cool seeing how "real" pilots were, in their starched shirts in the chairs, relaxed and chilling. I told her we were just as 'real' of pilots.  She's just a new one, and I'm just a...laid-back one.  ;)  We were the only prop plane there, everything else was a jet.  So as always I made darned sure they put 100LL in.

After we dropped off the passengers and I paid the bill, I had her fly us home.  She did the radios, and the flying, and I just helped a couple of times with oddball things they threw at her.  She's not even instrument rated yet, so she did a great job.

Morgan had never been above about 4000' before, and the first thing she said was how far away the ground was.  Then we popped through the clouds, and when we broke out on top, and it was sunny and bright and blue and warm, she was like a little kid.  "OH, it's SUNNY up here! I didn't know it was sunny up here!  I missed the sun!"  So we soaked up some Vitamin D, and she took about 50 pictures, and loved it.  And that is what's fun for me, taking people up to see things in planes they've never seen or done before, when they love it too.  It's just fun.

The hangar is getting more decorated, the T-6 and C-45 are looking good.  Tables are set up and when I left, Tre was almost there to get started decorating them.  Tomorrow they have to finish the hangar and Cheyenne lights.  Lots to do before tomorrow nights' first party, the employee party.

Kaylee has one more day of finals and she's done for the semester.

Ann is...mostly the same.  She was getting angry at her caregiver/helper one day and had to be told not to yell at her, which is as Un-Ann as you could possibly get. I've never heard her yell at or about anyone in 27 years.  Stupid disease.

This is a series of photos of us trying to get a selfie somewhat unsuccessfully.  I feel large and icky and didn't like to keep taking them so i was a comedy of errors.

Me sitting in BOB looking at the lights on the T-6

Me taking a selfie of just her and cutting myself out.

Why does my head look so big. I have a little head.

Big head

Me blocking her from taking another one

My "fine, do it from this angle then".
