When I woke up I wasn't feeling great, a tight headache, most of my body hurt, and I just didn't feel clear-headed, I was moving a little slow. It was raining and grey and overcast. I went out to Kokomo and got the Aerostar ready, added oil to both engines, sumped fuel, left the plane in the hangar because it was cold and rainy. Tre and Nathan arrived with some baggage, we loaded up, then launched into the clouds and rain. But it was smooth, and not convective, and by the time we got over Lake Michigan, the skies opened up a lot more too. It was a good flight. The winds were supposed to start kicking up around 35 knots up there, and we beat them in. It was like 6 knots when we landed, and about 15 when we left. It was heading up fast. We dropped off Tre, and went on down to Southern Illinois to pick up Jamie. We were hungry now, so after we grabbed him from his apartment, we ran through a drive-through. I started getting really tired on this leg. The last leg home, I almost couldn't keep my eyes open. For awhile I didn't. Again, that's super not like me in an airplane. The hum of the engines, the sun on my face, and a lack of sleep, plus a let down of some of the stress, and I was just beat. The flights were all good, the weather was fine after getting out of Kokomo, and it was a successful day with about 4 hours of flight time in there.
Out of Wisconsin and heading to Illinois, they flew us right over the top of Chicago O'Hare at 6000'. Which is cool. It ended up more on Nathan's side than mine, so I didn't get great photos, but I did at least capture a couple. There was traffic around. ATC told us to watch for traffic from every direction, and we were like "okee dokee, will watch for traffic from every direction". Without the "okee dokee". lol
I'm still beat. I hope I sleep like a dead person tonight. Tomorrow morning I go to Elizabethtown, KY. If that sounds familiar to you, it's because that's where I was trapped when the PT-26 engine driven fuel pump quit on me right before takeoff. Argh! I already know there's not much around there. lol
I don't actually mind this truck "art".
This big boy went by underneath us over OHare
Chicago O'Hare Airport off the nose under a cloudy sky
You really don't get to go over the top of O'Hare at 6000' very often.
