Thursday I had a trip to Erie, Pennsylvania with Terry in the 340. I was up at 5:30 am to check the weather, which was a little sketchy, but by the time we left, it was just IFR and the worst of the rain had moved out. The trip was quick and easy, and when I got there I took their courtesy car and went into town to eat at a place an imaginary friend of mine (from the internet) recommended. And he was right, it was very good.
Today was Kissimmee, Florida, taking Kevin and his wife J., his daughter Jackie and her husband Shawn, his son Stephen, and a lady whose husband works for them, all 7 of us down. The family is going to Disney, the lady is going to visit her sister. I dropped them off, and then took a car into town for seafood. Except it was only 11 am and I wasn't in the mood, so I did breakfast instead. I was at a place called Metro Diner, and it was packed out. So we sat at a bar facing the cooking area, like you would at a sushi place. The lady next to me was a local who struck up a conversation even though I had my book out on my iPad like I always do. She ended up so nice we had a fun conversation for like 20 minutes before she left. That's not like me at all, but we enjoyed it. Then she left, and some seats opened up to my left, and a family came up, and asked if I'd be willing to move so they could all sit side by side. Sure. I moved, but we all had to stand up for like 5 minutes and wait for someone to come by and wipe down everything. Afterwards, I went to pay, and the dad had paid my bill for being kind enough to move. I told him he didn't need to do that, I would sort of hope people wouldn't be jerks enough to say no to that request. But that was very kind of him.
The trip down and home had a few maintenance glitches. On the way down, the torque would suddenly drop on the right engine. Gets your attention a little bit. Kevin and I did some troubleshooting and we think we found enough info to help the maintenance guys solve it once and for all. Then my heading bug froze up right as I was getting into Florida. The busy state where they vector you around a lot. Which means I had to mostly hand fly the airplane at the busiest phase of flight. Lots of turns, altitude changes, and frequency changes, and talking, all at once. Which is why you stay current and proficient at that. Because sometimes it happens and you'd better be able to do it.
So Tuesday was a trip to Philly in the Aerostar, Thursday a trip to Erie PA in the 340, and Saturday a trip to Florida in the Cheyenne. Good diversity. Then when I got home, I had a night flight with Mo in the 172 at 8 pm. She needed to get night current for Purdue. We had a good time.
Steve and Kaylee had dinner at Olive Garden, I had McDonald's before my night flight, but...it's fine. ;)
We fired the lady who had been helping Ann who no-showed on her, and another lady starts coming as of Monday. The lady who no-showed pretended like she got a new phone and didn't get any of Steve's messages and had sent a message that she wouldn't be able to come Wednesday, which she hadn't. And apparently hadn't talked to her boss yet either. She may be a nice person but she's a mess and needs to get her act together.
And now you're all caught up.
On my way out to the airport to leave. Pretty sunrise.
