Man, I'm tired, I can't stop sucking air as I sit here. So this may be short.
I think Kaylee's first day of classes was today, but I haven't heard from her how it went. That's usually a good thing, as she calls more when she's upset than when she's happily trucking along.
After lunch, Steve flew me down to Metro in the RG so that I could pick up a T-6 that needed moved back to its home in Huntington. It had just come out of major annual, a lot of work done. I did a good preflight of course, and a decently long run-up, and then when I took off, over the city with nowhere to go, I climbed up high and circled right over the field and stayed there for several laps until I felt like everything was stable and looked and sounded right. Then I headed to Huntington. I never did fully relax, because this airplane and I have a history, and I feel a little "Fate is the Hunter"ish about it. I don't trust it. But today it ran smoothly, and I had an uneventful flight bringing it back into home base.
Steve chased me in the RG, and I saw him multiple times that he never saw me. In hindsight I should have formed up on him, but...I just wanted to get there and get it on the ground and be done.
After I landed, an airplane came in to land, and it was a P-40. I laughed, thinking it was amazing what warbirds came to visit Tim there. Only to find out when I got home, it's HIS new P-40. He bought it and it was delivered to him today. Man! I'm jealous! I told Steve that and he said some people are jealous of me. That's true, but my level of airplanes don't include things that Tim S. and Doug R. get to fly, and probably never will. Mustangs and Corsairs and P-40s and Spitfires. Oh my. *sigh*
At 5 pm I had someone else's student, doing crosswind takeoffs and landings. He actually did really well. He's a giant of a "kid", barely fits in the Archer, is hunched over because his head hits the top of the ceiling, can't put the ailerons all the way to the left because his tree trunk legs are in the way. He's *really* big. And today once we figured out how to move his seat so he could move all the controls better, he did a great job on his landings, nice and consistent. Other than doing giant patterns that someone else taught him, he's about ready to go off on his own. I did balloon/bounce recovery with him too, using power, etc. Again, he picked it up fast. He's on track to solo probably within the next two lessons if he doesn't do something sketchy to make us nervous. So that's fun.
Well, gosh, it's only 10:30 but I am beat. I think I'm going to go to bed! I don't even have to get up early tomorrow. But tomorrow afternoon is taking BOB over to Marion and setting up, and then probably dinner out. Saturday's weather for the event is now calling for showers. I hope it holds off for them...
