Tuesday

I was up at 6 am, before my alarm even went off, so I could get ready and head to Frankfort, and we departed at 8:30, headed to the edge of Ohio.  The business trip was actually to W. Virginia, and this airport was right at the corner of Pennsylvania, Ohio and W. Virginia.  Took about an hour and a half over there, and about the same back.  Not bad.  It was day VFR, nice relaxing flights, because he's not instrument rated yet, and the projects they have to look at need to be looked at when the weather is good, so that helps.  It's sort of nice having these trips that are so easy.  He picked it up really fast, doesn't need me for the flying part much any more, except for crosswind landings, and...the fact he doesn't have a multi rating.  ;)  We haven't done emergencies because we're on trips, and we're not going to do engine outs on the turbocharged big bore Continental engines, too hard on them.  But he's doing great.  My only complaint is that he goes on every flight, so my lunch option is whatever he does, which is something like Wendy's or Arby's (today), etc.  I like to go interesting places when I go somewhere, but...that's okay.  This is a limited time "gig", once he gets the hours with me he has to have for insurance, it'll go to him and his instructor buddy Mark.  So I'm just enjoying the easy flying that pays well for the limited time I have it.  ;)

I got back around 3 pm, got a full day's work in by then, which isn't shabby.  The house was clean when I got back, which was nice.  So I'm finishing up the laundry I didn't get done Sunday and Monday because we were too busy flying.  I did call back the doctor's office because they want to see Ann.  I did set up a time to go do the checkout in the Champ at Wabash that I've put off.  I set up a flight in the Legend Cub with the owner to sign him off in it and then borrow it on Friday so I can take it to my Wabash lesson afterwards. I sent out an email to the Wisconsin Wing guys who want me to come up and do their T-6 currency flight. Printed out my T-6 questions for the required CAF ground school Thursday.  I haven't called yet the bank that locked me out of the account, or the Cheyenne currency guy, or set up my next 340 flight next week to an avionics and paint shop, haven't picked up my candles from the fundraiser, picked up Ann's meds, or written that article for Warbird Digest on BOB.  Some of that is stressing me out. Some of it is easy, so I'm going to try to get it done tomorrow.  Some of it is tougher but I'm going to try.  I never heard back from the commercial people looking for a woman pilot for the 30 second spot, so I guess I didn't fit the image they were looking for. That's okay, it was an interesting thought. :)

Kaylee procrastinated and forgot to do a 10 page paper due sometime today, was up till 3 am working on it, didn't get it done, was still trying to finish today, I said it wouldn't be so bad if she wouldn't put it off for so long.  And here I am, I do the exact same thing.  I know it, but it doesn't make it easier to do things you don't feel like doing, that you wish would just go away or be fixed on their own.  ;)

This morning I landed in Ohio and my phone went off, alerting me that our friend Duane Carroll died in his sleep last night.  He's only like 60, he was fit and healthy, an active pilot and person, he wasn't sick, he just...didn't wake up.  I mean, that's a great way to go, but not at 60!!  He was a new grandpa, just...nobody expected this one.  Then the rest of the day I was getting texts and calls from all the people who know him. Then his son Trey called while I was strapping in to take off and head back out.  I couldn't answer at the time, but later I talked to him.  He's shocked right now too.  Just...wow.

Just a regular view out the front of the plane into the blue sky

This is a huge drop-off and you can't even tell. It's several stories tall.

Nope, still can't tell how far down that goes.  Oh well. It was my nature walk for today in Ohio.
