I got my car back today, so that's good! We've had to drive around together all the time, run each other back and forth as needed, sit out at the airport and wait for the other to be done, time our mornings, etc. Kind of a pain with one car and two busy people. So I'm glad to have it back.
Kaylee had been told there was a friend of a friend who needed a roommate, and she was glad to have an option. Today that fell through, and she's back to having no roommate and no suitemates. She's upset by that, and it's so soon before school starts that she may not be able to find anyone else to room with.
I was on a T-6 flight when the engine started missing, banging, shaking. I glanced down at the JPI and it said the #9 cylinder was gone. So it's back in the hangar at the moment, cowl off, and they're looking into it. Boy that thing makes a ruckus when it's not firing on all cylinders. lol Don't worry, I had 8 more. ;)
My first afternoon flight didn't want to be there. When I showed up, she was complaining about how hot it was, how she'd rather be on her couch watching a horror movie and drinking something cool. She had trouble with her headset, complained about it being bumpy (it was just a normal afternoon), just had a bad attitude the whole time. Her first takeoff went badly, and then she sighed, and just...the whole time we were flying it was getting harder and harder for me to make it productive at all. She was just doing what I said and not really trying, her attitude just stunk. So finally I called it off after .9. We're supposed to go again at 9 am, and she said "At least it'll be cooler and calmer then". She's the one who is doing this for her husband. This is the first time it's been this bad. I'd rather she quit than make me drag her through glass to get in a lesson. If her attitude isn't better tomorrow, I will probably talk to her about it. I'm too busy, I don't have time for this.
Next flight was a young lady working towards solo. She's overthinking everything, and it's holding her back a bit, so today I did a bunch of engine outs on her. Power out abeam the numbers, bring it in for landing, no time to think about much else. Get your speed, use your flaps and slipping as needed to get down, land. She tried to overthink that too, but we ended up doing pretty well. I hope to be able to break through this last little bit and solo her soon. :)
Tonight a round of storms moved through that had nasty straight-line winds, had knocked power out across the entire midwest. In Iowa they produced winds of 112 mph. Nasty. Here in Kokomo power is out in a lot of places again. It flickered at our house but stayed on. The airport, I'm not sure of. There are trees down, and a fire on a pole nearby, debris a lot of places, but we seem to be intact.
Tomorrow I have two taildragger lessons 9-11 and 11-1, then I leave at 1:30 for Tulsa, OK in the Cheyenne. I'm bringing Spencer with me, one of my former students who is now a brand new Commercial multi pilot who will get a kick out of getting some turboprop time into an international airport. He's also been a great worker for us, smart, hard working, and very handy and a go-getter. I like him as a person and think he's a good pilot too. I like being able to help out people like that.
