A Good Start

Today was Kaylee's first day of work as a server at Outback on her own!  She was nervous about it.  She then texted me at 7:15 that she'd been there for two hours and hadn't gotten any tables yet, that it was really slow.  Then it happened, she got her first table, and they were friends of hers, who requested her.  They tipped extra big and made her first table experience a good one, which was sweet.  Then she got another table, then had three all at the same time, and she said it went great.  She ended up making almost $70 in tips tonight!  She said she didn't drop anything, mix up anything, or lose anything, and that she likes her coworkers, she likes her managers, she likes the attitude/culture of the workplace there, and that she had no idea how much work being a server really was.  lol  So she is happy!  She had originally told us she didn't want us coming in, and I totally get that.  I'm the same way.  I'm the girl who couldn't do anything if my parents came to watch.  Aviation got me over some of that, but to this day I do not like being observed or judged.  It's why I hate checkrides so very much.  They traumatize me.  :p  (But seriously...)  Anyway, she did great. Her next work night is Friday night, and that's going to be B U S Y.  So today was a great introduction, and then she's off and running.  Interestingly, they normally put new servers on two-top tables right next to the kitchen.  They put her at 4-top tables far from the kitchen on her first night.  Usually you work your way up to server and start as hostess.  She was started as a server.   They seem to have faith in her abilities to jump in the deep end.  She's doing great.  :)

I woke up not feeling great, but it's not the 'Rona, it's just me crashing.  I've been living on low food, hot sun, high humidity, dehydration, minimal sleep, stress, questioning and doubt, and constant activity, for over a week and a half.  Last night I slept, and didn't have to get up early, although I was still up by 7 something, and when I woke up, my system just...crashed.  I spent the day feeling lethargic, tired, scratchy throat, bleh.  By tonight, after a day of only having one flight and mostly being able to be indoors and out of the heat, I was feeling so much better.  Now it's almost 1 am and I've caught my second wind.  That's not good either.  ;)  It's finally sinking in, this week and what all it means.  Steve and Kaylee both asked me what my next goal is.  I thought...huh...I Do need a next goal, don't I.  So I thought I'd see if Jordan would let me check out in the C-47 still, and I'm thinking about flying in the T-6 formation at Oshkosh next year.   Of course Laura's first thought is...that is not a good memory from last time, and am I good enough for it.  And if Steve read this he'd smack me in the back of the head.  He's always had more faith in me than I've had in myself.  What a great thing to be able to say about your spouse, eh?

This picture is from my first official stranger back-seater in the Twin Beech during our first formation photo shoot.
