Grass

Kaylee and I drove separately out to the airport, where I had some things to do.  The Champ needed a "return to service" flight, which I did with Kaylee.  She was tired, hadn't flown in a year, and that was 3 hours in a Cub, and she was worried about everybody at Glenndale watching her and thinking she wasn't good.  In the air, she's the first student I've ever had who didn't wallow around like crazy in the Champ at first.  She stayed coordinated, better than about anybody, from the first takeoff.  She did fairly steep turns left and right and stayed coordinated.  I mean...nobody does that.  I don't even do that sometimes.  It's weird.  Her takeoffs were great.  She lifted the tail, kept it straight, felt it off the runway, straight on climbout.  When it came time to land, she has such a mental block about looking bad that she tenses up, flails around, and worries more about who is down there watching than about what she's doing.  When she didn't do it perfectly, she got really upset, and nothing anybody says will convince her that she sucks at this.  She is naturally very good at this, better than I was, and she won't believe it.  The hardest thing about teaching her to fly is going to be getting her out of her own head.

From there, her friend Caitlyn came out and they sat apart in the big hangar.  A giant spider, and I do mean giant spider, was on the floor in between them, and they freaked.  I got the spider killer spray and hosed that thing down, and then I couldn't bring myself to clean it up, so I called Jon over, who was next door working on Gumby.  He cleaned it up for us.  Our Hero.

Also, I was talking to Kaylee and she got this look on her face and backed away then reached up and brushed at my shirt.  I had a spider on my shirt front, and rather than just running, she brushed it off of me.  She does love me.

I pulled out the Cheyenne and topped it off.  I am going to be going to Florida after all.  The woman is the recent widow of a friend, and her two sons asked us to bring her home, even after we initially said no.  Airlines isn't good for her health, and she can't drive that far.  So,  I will go get her.  I leave tomorrow morning at 9 am, and I'll do my best to stay clear and clean, for her and my sake both.

By the way, Jet A is $2.04/gallon right now.  That's unbelievable.  It would almost be cheaper to fly it than the 340 somewhere right now.  Unreal.

This is a squash Kaylee made, with vegetables and cheese baked into the inside of it.  I hate squash.  This was delicious.

A few pics from the back seat

She used to be mad that my hair was thicker and longer than hers. Not any more!

Can't see my face, but there are my legs and hand.  :D

Michelle B at Glenndale took these last two.  This was actually me landing, it was the first landing, and Kaylee refused because there were a bunch of people standing around.  So I demonstrated the first one.

This was her coming in.
