I'm doing all right. Feelin' pretty good. My arm bruised up big time from the IVs, and it's a weird purple and green color at the moment, but the rest of me isn't in too bad of shape. I'm not back up to 100% yet, and my system is a little out of whack, but all in all I'm doing pretty well! I didn't do much yesterday. Today I had two flights, and one she canceled because it was too cold for her, and the second was canceled because we had a flat tire. I wasn't too disappointed, honestly, I don't feel bad or anything, but I just didn't mind. Plus it's cold out there. Tomorrow it's supposed to be 15 degrees and I have two flights tomorrow scheduled. Part of me wants to do them because it's been awhile. Part of me doesn't want to do them because I'm tired and cold.
After lunch, Steve and I went to Rural King to pick up our last two handgun purchases, which were finally in. It. Took. Forever. I got agitated, it should not have taken that long. But finally it was done, and the store had to escort us out of the store, with them carrying our handguns in their boxes, and escort us to the front door. In the meantime, you are allowed to load them, and turn around and carry them right back into the store sitting on your hip in plain sight. We all agreed that was...odd.
From there I went out to the airport to fly with my 3:30 pm student. She got there 15 minutes late, which I hate. I'd been lying on the couch waiting for her, for about 40 minutes. She then texts me "This tire looks low". I go out there, and sure enough, it is. I could have the guys fill it back up, but that's the second time the tire went down, and we changed the whole tire and tube last time. So...I don't want to be out there in 20 degree temps doing takeoffs and landings and have it go flat on landing again. Not because it would be dangerous (it wouldn't), but because I'm too tired, old and cold to pull one of those "Stand out by the runway forever until help comes to get us tugged off the runway" deals. So I wasted a couple hours out at the airport.
Tonight we did our EAA Chapter meetings. First was the IMC Club meeting which went over preflight planning for an IFR flight including weather. Then the regular meeting, which was pretty short and just covered upcoming events. Then the VMC Club meeting, which went over FAA approved procedures at uncontrolled fields. That one was a little basic, but the rest was pretty good. Afterwards a fellow pinned me down and chatted with me for an hour and a half. I wasn't able to talk to anyone else, and I had a few people I wanted to talk to actually, and everyone but Steve, AE and Justin left by the time this fellow got done talking. So I got there at 6 pm and didn't leave till 9:40 or so. Long evening but mostly good, minus being cornered by a fellow for an hour and a half. Helped by hot dogs and mac & cheese. ;)
The day had a lot of wasted time in it, unfortunately, but such is life sometimes!
Night before last I had a weird nightmare. We were in an apartment building, on an upper floor, but it was our house. Lava was coming up, floor by floor, and was going to flood our apartment. Steve and I are taking our time, I'm grabbing a Warbird t-shirt and saying "I don't want a grey one, I want to keep a green and black one." Then it occurs to me that I have to grab all of Devon's photos, because they're not all digital. Most of Kaylee's are. We aren't stressed at all. Then the lava starts coming in the front door, and now I'm stressed because I can't figure out how to haul out all these photos and stuff. As I start heading to the front door, I realize we may be trapped in there, and we're going to die. The lava is clear, like thick water. And not hot yet. Which is weird. And it never occurred to me to wonder how we were going to get down from our upper floor if the lava had already reached our floor. I woke up with my heart pounding in my ears, realizing that we were trapped in there and were going to burn up, a way I do not want to go. I never did get back to sleep the rest of the night, either, just went half in and out until the sun came in through the window and woke me up the rest of the way. Weird!
On an amusing to me note: Today's Texts between me & Kaylee. Kaylee's in italics.
"In life calling the other day, they were saying 'introverts don't hate people' and I was like hmmmm."
"I don't hate people! I just don't like crowds. Or icky people. Or loud people. But I Don't hate people."
"Mm hmm. Sure."
Then she sent me a meme that talks about how the world says to follow your heart, believe in yourself, discover yourself, etc., and Jesus says "follow me, believe in me, Deny yourself, be true to me." She said "This bothers me, because yes, that's true, but also, if you're truly in a relationship with God, then your heart should be aligned with his, and being true to yourself would also be being true to God. And God definitely wants us to discover more about ourselves, because we can grow more in our relationship with him through that. And believing in him is a must, but if you don't believe in yourself, then you can't accept that God believes in you too. If you just follow what this post is saying to do, you'll just become a blind part of a religion that tears individuals down in order to build up God. Our God doesn't need us to tear ourselves or anyone else down in order to build Himself up. In fact, he wants to build US up. Obviously not to be more important than him, but basically what I'm saying, is that those things aren't mutually exclusive."
Last but not least, I sent her this Twitter thing that showed a picture of a pretty girl, and the text says "Have we done a screening for racism? I'm ready to stan." I read that 4 times and could NOT figure out what on earth it was talking about. So I asked the 19 year old.
"What Language is this?? Wut?"
"HA! They're saying she's cute, and asking if anyone has stalked her to see if she's racist, because if she is, then they can't like her, but if she's not, then they can like her a lot (aka 'stanning'.) When you stan someone, it's like obsessing over them."
"Thank you for the translation. I read that four times and I could tell it was in English, but that was as far as I could get" (shrug emoji)
"(crying laughing emoji) Always here for you, mom."
And that was Kaylee & Laura today. ;)
