Today was probably the last day I'm planning on going up on field. Steve, AE and I went through and hit the Fly Market today (you know, Flea Market for pilots). I came away with a really nice genuine leather bag for $20, an adapter so I can charge my iPhone and listen to music at the same time, and a new leather purse. I like my black cloth purse, but I can't carry a couple things with it that I want to carry. I can with this one, and the real leather purse there was only $18. Beat that elsewhere!
AE got a Bose headset fixed at the Bose tent for absolutely free of charge. We dropped it off and swung back by in 2 hours and picked it up, all solved, no money.
We stopped for hand dipped ice cream, and my coffee and death by chocolate combination was divine. ;) It's overcast out, and there is a breeze, with a high of like 80 degrees, so the weather is perfect for walking.
One other thing we enjoyed today, was taking a Model T ride around from the tower up to the end of Warbirds and back. We had to register in the Ford tent and get a wrist band, check in with the wrist band and sign a waiver, and then they gave us a free ride in a privately owned Model T. The driver's name was Dennis, he owned the car, and he was doing it for the fun of it, had driven 144 riders before he started that morning, and wrote down in a little notebook where everyone he gave a ride to was from. It was a fun, relaxing little ride, and it was something different. We hadn't ever done that before, so hey.
We took a bus back to the campground, as the golf cart was gone, and had a nice little ride there, too. Nathan hit the store for tonight's steak night, and around 7 pm we're having about 30 people over for dinner. We're watching the air show (very noisy military jet at the moment) and setting up the camp for tonight's meal. Another person supposedly coming in tonight is my former college roommate, Melissa. She contacted me and really, really wanted to meet up, enough so that she got onto EAA grounds and a golf cart to come to me.
Last night we had 3 fighter pilots in the camp. One named "Moon", who had visited us before, and his two new pilots, who sat around the camp fire and drank and told stories and such. Moon was a little wild a few years ago, but last night he had his two kids with him, and it was a completely different scenario. Last time he'd stolen a huge airplane tug and driven it to our campsite, rather against the rules. This time the new pilots are the ones talking about getting into trouble. One of them has a girlfriend who flies, and he thought it was cool that I flew. Seemed like nice young men. ;)
Well, probably should put this away, rearrange my purse, and get set up for tonight. I skipped lunch, other than ice cream, so at least I'll be hungry for steak night. ;)
I have heard bits and pieces from Kaylee, no details. So I told her to update her blog again. Bugger.
Our trailer hasn't needed pumped out or refilled this year, and it's a little trailer. We've done really well on water conservation, but even so we've each had three showers in there and it's still at 1/3 full. We may run out on the next shower though. I've been going during the airshow a couple times too, to the main shower house, when it's deserted, which I'll probably have to do one more time before we leave for home.
The Cirrus guys in a big trailer next to us gave us a whole flat of free water and Gatorade because they had to illegally run their generators all night the first night to keep $20,000 worth of food cold, and they're right next to our campsite. When we had no problem with it, they had their guys load up this entire thing of drinks and give it to us for free. It's been a huge money saver, all the water and drinks we haven't had to buy here. In fact, we have dozens of cases left over, which we have to transport back to Kokomo, where it will also save us a ton of money out at the hangar and/or our next event. Super thankful for that! Steve is driving home with AE, Nathan is driving his rig home, and as of now I'm coming back either by myself with 400 lbs of water, or with Zak and Misty and however much water I calculate is safe to take with us, and the rest of the water will come in the trucks.
So, I guess that catches you up for now. People are arriving, and it's time to get busy with it.
