Tuesday's Tribbles
Today was the Flying Squirrels. I got out to Kokomo and scud-runned the Champ over to Glenndale. There was standing water on the north end of the runway at Glenndale, so came in on the other end, with a slight tailwind, and landed before the runway threshold markers. The clouds were too low to do flights, so we did ground. Then the clouds started lifting, but the standing water on the runway made it difficult for two of the instructors to feel comfortable with new students flying off of it without risking running off one end or running into the water in the other end. So we didn't do the flights. I took the Champ back, and went to my 6 month dental cleaning, which went well, or as well as anything with the word "dental" in it can. Went back out and had a flight review in the Champ with someone. We did slow flight and stalls, and when he'd overcorrect on the stalls we almost did spin entries, so we did a bit more of that. Takeoffs and landings, and engine out landings, slips to landing. Fun stuff. Got it done. From there I was going to run up the T-6, and maybe take it up, but Nathan had gotten that covered today, so that was good. I take it tomorrow morning to Indy Exec. I think the weather will hold out this time, though the humidity is high so I wonder about unforecast fog in the morning. But if it works out, I'll be down there by 7:30 am. (Yawn). I hope this reporter doesn't want much fancy talk at 7:30 am.
I stopped at the store for some groceries, and ran into John Dale, someone I haven't seen in years, but we ran into at the Jackrabbits game last night, and now today. We talked for a good 20 minutes. It's so weird to see him, and good. He said something I thought was really nice. He told me that you never know what kind of impact someone will have over the years, and that whenever flying comes up, and people ask him about pilots, that my name comes up as one of the best he's known. He said that I was able to teach him something in a way that nobody else had, that made it click in for him, and changed how he thought of and did some things. I thought that was nice. Made me feel good.
Steve is down at a meeting for the Wings Over Indy event this Saturday. Kaylee is working on thank you notes. I am preparing for tomorrow and this weekend. And so it goes.
Oh, at the Jackrabbits game. We sat next to another set of parents, Kaylee's friend Meredith. It was a long night to sit at a baseball game that we don't care about for a 1 minute National Anthem song. But it was the kids' last time as an Encore group, their last performance ever. So it was a good night.
