Another Year Older and....

It wasn't too nice getting up early on my birthday, but it was an awful pretty day.   I was out at the airport before 9, and there was a 3 hour groundschool for the PT-26 with the CAF.  We watched the powerpoint presentation, took a quiz, talked.  Then I flew the L-2, well, flew IN it, for a checkout flight for Mark O.  After him, Steve brought me a sandwich, and then I flew in the 172 with a guy I'm still trying to solo.  I've been trying to solo him since last Fall, but I can not get the job done.  He won't stay consistent, adds in new and flaky problems.  *sigh*  It was a perfect, low-wind day, I've brought my camera the last three flights, but I'm going to quit doing that now.  (He never saw it, I hid it in the plane before he got there).  I just can't get him to get out of his own head, relax, and do what I know he can do.  It's like he's sabotaging himself.  I have had people who truly couldn't get it, and plenty who were nervous and took awhile, but I've never had someone who could get it but freaks himself out so much that whenever he gets close to solo he starts doing random weird wrong things that were never a problem before.  Any little thing throws him and he's full of excuses.  It makes me uncomfortable to solo him.  I don't have confidence he won't freak out and do something odd when I get out.  :/   We'll keep working on it, he's capable, I just need to get him out of his own head...

Something that was kind of fun today, a few people said "Happy Birthday Laura" over the radio in the air.  I enjoyed that.  :)

Steve and I ran home, changed clothes, and met some friends and family to eat out.  We had a good time, ate too much, talked and laughed for a couple hours, and waddled home.  It was nice...

Kaylee, in the meantime, took the SAT this morning.  She said the essay was rushed but seemed okay, English was good (duh), math with a calculator wasn't bad, but math without a calculator was a total disaster.  The good news is she can take it again next year, and she'll have seen what it's actually like.  A lot of people actually study for the SAT.  She hasn't.  Maybe she will next year, but we'll see how she does and she can go from there.

Tonight she had musical practice.  They're working with their costumes, and she says none of hers fit her right, but they don't want to take the time to adjust them, and they don't belong to the school, so she can't bring them home and let me have them fixed either.  She says she has the Ugliest costume dresses this time.  Three of them, all unattractive.  I told her that her ballroom gown from last year was gorgeous so I guess it was time for an ugly one.  ;)

Well, we "Spring Forward" now, making it a little harder to get night flights in, but making it easier for people to fly after work.  Monday I go to Florida, sometime next week I go to Tennessee...and I did get a nice birthday smile in another regard.  I got a private message that April 21st is the scheduled date for me and Nathan to attend the TBM groundschool.  He said he hadn't forgotten us.  So...yay.  :)

From today, take-off.  :)
