It's pretty sad when you have the chance to sleep in but wake up at 7:00 am anyway. Darned internal clock! :)
I did a little bit of work today, answered some emails, called for fuel for the Cheyenne, asked to borrow someone's Cub for Tuesday's show thing, that kind of stuff.
And then I went back to the mall. Holy Moly! I had to drive for 20 minutes to find an open spot. Their big sale is an Oklahoma thing, it's tax free for anything that could be used for "back to school". Clothes, shoes, supplies, etc. And the crowds were HUGE. They were so big, though, I didn't actually get bothered by more than two salespeople the whole time I was there, which was sweet. I got a swimsuit that was originally $86 for $22. (I'll explain that later). I got my nails done. I did it for Tuesday, so my nails would look nice at least. But they were all nice and long except for two which had broken off. Then I had two that were way too long and needed trimmed. The lady asked if I'd like her to trim them, and I said yes, and then she promptly cut them all basically off to match the two that had broken. I was kinda proud of those long nails since it had been awhile, but oh well. :) While I was in there I was watching the young Vietnamese girls doing pedacures. 1). The way they were scrubbing at people's feet and toes, I'd die. I could never have someone touch my feet like that. And 2). The girls did not look like they enjoyed their job. At all. The nails girls were fine, but the feet girls...I kind of felt sorry for them. I wouldn't like to put on gloves and scrub people's feet either, frankly.
I got my eyebrows done. Threaded. $11. Not bad for that kind of place. Also so I wouldn't have wild growing brows on TV should they, heaven forbid, get too close with a camera.
Next up I went to one of those make up counters. Met the nicest lady, and she did a partial makeover on me. Moisturizer, eye cream, foundation, syrum, even gave me an arm/hand massage with one of their lotions. And lip balm. And I bought the foundation she said looked the best on me. It won't stay on like the stuff I use now mostly does, so if it's a hot sweaty day, it'll come off. So not so great for warbird rides or instructing days in the heat. But it matches my skin tone better at least. I did like how it looked. She said the lotion she put on underneath made your skin "glow" and it did seem to do that, but I couldn't afford to buy any more of that brand, so I'm trying the foundation as is and see if it's still decent without all the other stuff she put on my face first...or not. We'll find out tomorrow.
Went to see "Kidnapped" with Halle Berry. The whole movie was basically one big car chase with her talking to herself and freaking out, kinda like Sandra Bullock did in "Speed" except she talked to other people too. We'll call that one a "meh".
For dinner I decided to go to a steak place. I googled nearby ones, and found one called "Junior's" that sounded really good. I get directions there via Google Maps, and I can NOT find the place. I drove back and forth a couple times before I googled their website to make sure they were still open. They were. The entrance was in the parking garage basement of a large otherwise empty looking skyscraper "oil" building. That should have been my first clue. I figured it must be defunct or something, the place was hidden, no signs out front, you have to go into a parking garage basement, right? I finally find it, and park, and get to the door, and it says on the door "Proper Attire Required". I smirk, like, whatever, and then as I pull the door open I see below that "Minimum of Business Casual". I look down at my warbird training center T-shirt and jeans, and look inside at the people there, and debate for about one point four seconds before closing the door and getting back in my car to try the next place. If they didn't say right on the door what dress is required, that's one thing, but when they do, choosing to ignore THAT seems a little crass even for me. It was obviously some trendy high dollar place where you have to know it's there to get there in the first place.
Next up I went to "Pearl's Crabtown." This was more like it. New Orleans style atmosphere, jeans acceptable, but they still had killer crab legs, which is what I went for. As a single 'eater', I just went to the bar, otherwise they had a 45 minute wait. The king crab was *really* good. The seats are right on top of each other, and you have to get in the people next to you's way to get in or out of a seat. There was no room for me to read a book or anything but eat. So the people next to you become friendly after awhile, out of necessity. The lady to my left asked if they were king crab, I said yes, and her and her boyfriend had to get that too after seeing mine. I even offered them my extra side dish as I didn't want it. The lady to my right...one of the crab legs flew out of my hand and hit me in the chest. I looked down, grabbed it, laughed, and she said "Nobody saw that. I didn't even see that." We "cheers"'d each other with our drinks and laughed. Downtown Oklahoma City at night had horse and buggies giving rides, and one of them was a lit up pumpkin looking carriage like Cinderella's, all neon lights. It was interesting, anyway.
When I got back, I walked on the treadmill in the exercise room for awhile. I'd already done a lot of steps at the mall today, and I'd been using the stairs instead of the elevator every time at the hotel, but if there's one thing that shopping will do for you, it's make you flinch as you stand in front of full length florescent lit mirrors and see every flaw highlighted. Ugh.
Last but not least, I used that new swimsuit to sit in the hot tub in the hotel. The water was rather green, which makes me twitchy, but you could smell the chemicals, so that has to be okay, right? I had the place to myself. Kids kicked out at 10 pm and no other adults down there. So I sat in the hot tub and read a book for half an hour, until I got so hot I walked into the cold pool for a few before heading out. The sign on the wall says nobody should go in the hot tub alone for safety, and to get out if you get dizzy. They do keep it hot, but boy that felt nice on some sore muscles.
Tomorrow will be a work day. The weather is looking a little sketchy, so I'm going to have to keep an eye on that and be ready to go whenever they say they're ready to go, which could be as early as 4 pm and as late as 9 pm. On the good end of it: I'm in the Cheyenne, heading east, so if I need to go up to the top of its ceiling to get over weather, I can, as long as the weather isn't right here or right home, and I'll have a nice tailwind in which to do it.
I missed our T-6 rides, but Steve and Justin said they gave four regular rides and one double ride for aerobatics, so hopefully that was good for the guy who came up to fill in for me. Kaylee was supposed to go out with friends to something, and I haven't heard back so hopefully she had a good time. And now it's midnight my time and the hot tub soaked out a few sore muscles, so it seems like a good time to get some sleep and get ready for tomorrow...
