Stuff and Stuff

Tuesday and Wednesday were mostly just flying days.  The weather has been beautiful, a little windy, but beautiful.  So I had students most of the days, and Steve had several too.   Wednesday I started with a flight at 9 am and my last flight of the day got me home around 1:15 in the morning.   I was supposed to meet someone at 9 pm to go over their night cross country flight plan.  He was 20 minutes late, and when he did arrive, he hadn't done a flight plan.  That takes some real time, up to 2 hours to do the old fashioned way one of the first times.  I helped him do a quick and dirty one, we took off just after 10 pm, and by the time we were done, put away, and I was home, it was 1:15 in the morning.  Kaylee was still awake in her room (I have a story about her soon), and Steve was still awake in another small room, but I just wanted to peel my contacts out and pass out.  Which I did pretty quickly.

Now, Kaylee.  First, on Tuesday she had a trip with some of her choir friends, and Mrs. E the choir director, down to Indy for some shopping and such.  On the way home, around 7-8 pm, one of the adults driving the car said that the girls should not be getting any caffeine, that they didn't need it and it wasn't good for them at that age.  So Kaylee promptly ordered a sweet drink with a shot of espresso, because she's stubborn and doesn't like to be told what to do  by people she doesn't think should be telling her what she should and shouldn't do.  She started drinking it, thought it was strong, read the label on it, and it said "Triple Espresso".  She drank most of it anyway, and then said all the way home she was humming on the inside but she refused to show it on the outside to prove the lady right that she shouldn't have had it.  She then didn't sleep for over 30 hours straight.  No kidding.  She tried, too.  She'd lie down, but no luck.  Finally she passed out last night around 1:30, and slept for 12 hours straight.  That's going to be one messed-up sleep cycle, but I couldn't help but laugh at her over it.  I think she learned a lesson even if she won't admit it.  Triple espresso is a bad idea.  ;)

Wednesday there an Encore meeting with parents and kids to pick out the dresses they were going to wear the next two years.  I had students all day, but one canceled because it was super windy and gusty.  Perfect timing, because now I could make her meeting.  They had a royal blue sequined dress, and an emerald green sequined dress to choose from.  Kaylee liked the royal blue the best, so that's what we voted for, but we were out-voted by 10 votes, and they will be wearing emerald green.  She's afraid it will wash out her skin, but I think it'll look pretty with her hair and eyes.  It did pop a lot on the stage lights.  I think it's pretty, and I'm hoping it will grow on her.

Fortunately, since I was out so late last night, I'd thought to block off my schedule for early this morning.  So I had a 10 am flight, and it was plenty early enough for me, believe it or not.  After lunch and a doctor's appointment run, I took a Baron down to Greenwood.  When I took off that time, the winds were really gusty and bumpy at the altitude I was at, anyway.  Took me by surprise.  Coming in to land, the weather said the winds were at 7 knots gusting to 21.  That's a huge gust factor.  Weird day.

I have another airplane to run to Greenwood but ran short on time, so I'll do that tomorrow morning.  I got back in time today to grab Kaylee some food, and go out to Glenndale for the first official meeting of the Flying Squirrels.  We have 9 or 10 kids signed up, and 3 instructors including me, and we'll meet each Tuesday  out there and do ground and flight training until everyone's got their time in.  Lunch will be provided.   So that'll be one more thing to keep busy with!

Steve's off with some friends tonight, and I just got home.  I'll relax for awhile here, as the weekend is going to get busy again.

Oh, and my arm quit hurting and my finger only hurts if I put pressure on the wrong spot.  It's progress.  ;)  Maybe tomorrow and definitely Saturday I'm flying the T-6, though, and I'm a little concerned I won't be able to operate the flaps and throttle properly with my finger like that.  It takes a lot of pressure and I'm always banging up that finger, the knuckle, etc.  I'm going to put on a really thick bandage and a glove and hope for the best.
