Poker Run, Habitat, Spring Concert

Saturday was such a beautiful day.  Steve was out there super early, setting up and getting ready.  I made it out with Ernie at a more reasonable hour of 8:30-9, just in time to get one of the last donuts.   At 10 I had an aerial photo shoot of a Habitat for Humanities house being built in town.  I grabbed Steve T who has a big zoom lens, and plugged the address into my Google Maps on my cellphone.  It showed up on my cellphone as I was flying along, and I was able to pinpoint the house from the air using my driving directions.  Sweet.  I circled around the house a few times, avoiding a couple of towers that weren't too far away, staying just high enough nobody could prove what my altitude would be, and we got some good shots of them.  Steve flew us home and landed, did a nice job for his first landing in two years.

The Poker Run was live then.  There were several gaggles of airplanes flying around from place to place.  They had a good time, gathered a lot of cards, and everyone's goal was to beat Ty.  The people who won donated their winnings back to the Squirrels program and said "As long as we beat Ty, we're good."  Ha.  I love this group.

I flew the T-6 three times that day, a quick first hop with Justin, a second hop with Steve T, and then a third run with the son of the girlfriend of one of the Glenndale guys.  A favor was called in there, to help this fellow solidify his place in the heart of the lady whom he is currently courting, and there's no better way to a woman's heart than to do a favor for her son.  It's all good.  ;)  He started off saying he didn't want any funny business, but we'd only been up for about 2 minutes flat when he changed his mind and said "You know, if you want to show me a trick or something, I'd be okay with that."  I know better than to fall for that though, so first I put it into a pretty steep turn.  He liked that, so I moved up to a super easy and gentle wingover.  That was enough, but we both had fun and he came down pretty excited about his first time in a warbird.   Hopefully we helped his mom's boyfriend's cause.  ;)

Soon it was time to run Kaylee to her concert, and then pick up the moms and meet up out at the school for the show.  Kaylee had a pretty large solo part in "Timewarp", and a small singing line in "Mr. Postman".  As always she killed it on the dancing and acting performance, just super expressive and  into it.  After the show she went with friends to an "after party", where they had a bonfire until late.  They drove into town then to go to Dirty Dan's, which opens at 1 am.  The line was so huge, they didn't stay for long, they left for a little while and drove around and sang songs, and then came back around 2, and still had a huge line, so they stood in line for over an hour to get these donuts.  Kaylee didn't make it home until 3:30 a.m.!  I was hanging in there, staying awake, texting her now and then, and finally I passed out right before she got home.  I woke up then at 4:30 and got the text that she was home and in and doors were all locked, and fell asleep around 5 am again, and then was up Sunday morning.  So I was pretty beat, but she had a great last concert as a Sophomore, last concert as a Starlet, last concert with several of her senior friends, and I was glad for her.

I have a ton of photos.  I'm gonna have to come back tomorrow to post them.  It's midnight and I'm beat.  Check this post again later and I'll have photos up from her concert and stuff.  :)
