So Far

Sunday for the Red Bull Air Race dawned with fog, so we didn't rush down there, but we did still leave while it was foggy and were the first people from our group there.  There was lots of excitement, the atmosphere was fun, and we were waaaaay up on the top of a section.  We were four rows from the top of the bleachers, and Steve said he didn't want to be up at that last row--neither he nor Kaylee would go up to the top to look over with me.  It was quite a hike up there, too, and I thought it was funny that Kaylee was way more tired out of it than I was.  She claims it's because I treadmill more.  I do have strong walking skills.  Just can't jog to the end of the driveway, that's all.  ;)

The race itself is more made for TV than in person, though, as there are large gaps of time without action.  *I* enjoyed it, and Steve did, but some other people were kind of bored, I think.  They'd have a motorcycle guy do a routine on the track, and a paraglider did a routine, and there was an aerobatic routine briefly, but most of the time you were sitting and waiting, and then the next guy would go.  I enjoyed it, am glad I went, and it was a fun experience.  I think they could improve the "wow" factor for everyone else, but like I said, I enjoyed it.  :)

We were sitting next to where they'd come in to land, so you'd see them slipping once they got past the edge of the stadium, and landing over the top of whomever was down there waiting to takeoff and go.  Kaylee had a friend who was going to come who didn't make it, so she was just with us, but she had a nice time, and I was glad.

Speaking of Kaylee, I just finished filling out her IACRA for a student pilot's certificate.  It should be here within a few weeks, and she'll have her student pilot certificate before her driver's permit.  Which we also need to get on.   It's tough to find time to do anything but what she's already doing.  The choir, drama, and band take up every spare evening she has, and she has trouble keeping up with homework sometimes.  So adding in lessons of any kind is really tough right now.  We'll do what we can.  I'm also not thrilled with doing it in a 172, I'd rather she learn in the Cub or Champ, but I don't have one of those available, and if I did, doing so in Oct-Feb is a big old doubtful crapshoot anyway.  So she'll probably solo in the 172, if we can find time to hit it.
