A Day in Baltimore and Kokomo

Kaylee took a couple days off and didn't do anything, by choice.  Today she was back to at least band, until 9 pm tonight.  Maybe drama too, not sure there, as I was gone.

Last night Steve and I flew the RG down to Indy Metro for a CAF meeting.  The meeting ran long, and we didn't get home until something like 11 pm.  This was not the nicest for me since I had an early morning flight.  I went to bed and woke up at 3.  And 4.  And got up at 5.  A.M.  The flight to Maryland was uneventful, and once I got there I put a sweatshirt over the top of me, turned the volume off on the TV, and fell asleep in a recliner there in the pilot's lounge.  Three other guys came in and sat there and I lightly slept, but slept anyway, for over an hour.  I'm sure they wanted the TV up, but were too nice to do it.  I normally can't sleep in public, especially if I think they're over there looking at me sleep, which creeps me out, but I was soooo tired.  At lunch time I decided to walk to the restaurant and back.  That makes it 2.6 miles round trip, and once I was there I had steamed mussels and a raw tuna Caesar salad, and ruined it with a slice of carrot cake.  It was a rough lunch and I had to send pictures to my friends at home.  ;)  It was 80 degrees and sunny and such a pretty day out there.

The flight home made D and I laugh.  We bombed along fat dumb and happy and with a very fierce headwind for 3 hours.  (It only took 2 hours getting out there, with a 60 knot tailwind.)  So the controller says "Convective Sigmet for Indiana..." and I don't know what he's talking about.  The weather before we left was fine.  The Avidyne isn't showing any weather.  As we get closer to Kokomo, I start seeing out the window that something is out there.  I look at the Avidyne again...and on further inspection I see that the NEXRAD weather was turned off.  I flip it on, and hey there, nice view of a bunch of crap ahead of us.  At least we spent most of the flight not concerned about it.  ;)  We deviated around a bit of it, and then I had him slow down as we waited for a big cell with heavy rain to move through Kokomo.  Once it was past, we moved on in and came in to land in just the normal rain.  All around us was much less pleasant weather.  It was a window of "good enough".  We couldn't help but laugh.  When we pulled up to the hangar, Justin H opened the hangar door and brought out the tug.  D jumped out, Justin held the umbrella over his head, and they towed me back into the hangar with me sitting in the plane.  Now that's service.  ;)

Sunbeams on the way to Baltimore.

Blue Angel 3 on the ramp at Baltimore.  I still think they should let me take it for a spin.

It was just a particularly pretty day out there.  80 degrees, sunny, and some of the trees just starting to change.

My view while I was eating my steamed mussels and tuna caesar salad.

This is the place, looks like nothing at all from the main road.

Steamed mussels in a garlic wine sauce with garlic toast points.

This and the below was in the flight planning room. Helpful, yo.

Kokomo wasn't in  here, but Lafayette and Ft. Wayne were.

Once our NEXRAD was turned on, it came on with lots of pretty colors.

Final Runway 5 at Kokomo in the rain.

Short Final

I couldn't get the camera to focus on anything but the rain on the windshield, but here's the hangar door going up as we taxiied in.

D tugging me in while Justin held the umbrella over his head.  :)
