The Day

Fried Chicken Friday is always a good day at the airport.  ;)

Kaylee got to go to school today for the first time in three days, and she did okay!  She's still got a snotty nose, but she feels muuuch better.  She's caught up on just about everything but Geometry.  She sent an email to her teacher, who said she'd help her in today's class, but she didn't, she ran out of time, and has since assigned a further assignment on radicals that is past where Kaylee hasn't learned in the first place.  So she's concerned and behind and it is snowballing fast.  Saturday she is very busy all day and night, but Sunday I'm going to google and see if I can figure out what she's working on and remember it and see if I can explain it to her.  I hope so, and phoo on the teacher who has a student ask for help who was gone sick and doesn't take time to do it, but leaves her further in the dust.

After lunch I had a stop at the tax place, then on out to Kokomo where I had a 1:30 student, whom I texted to not preflight the RG, but instead come with me in the 340 to Aurora.  Since I couldn't fly with him as scheduled, I didn't think he'd complain about going along, and he was glad to.  :)  I actually haven't flown myself in there for awhile, but I had him do it anyway, because that's most of the fun, getting your hands on an airplane, and if your lesson is going to be cancelled, getting a free multi-engine airplane dual logged time makes it well worth while.  :)  We were on our way there when I got a text from Nathan, who needed to turn back with a maintenance issue.  And people say texting and flying is bad.  Texting and flying is AWESOME.  Anyway.  We got to Aurora and hung out for awhile, caught up on a few things, walked around, talked about procedures and did a little ground lesson time, and then Nathan made it over in the RG. The quick 2 hour round trip turned into about double that, but all's well that ends well, and all ended well!  The 340 is off getting its annual, a squawk was found on Gumby that can be tweaked, I got to fly today, well, ride today, the weather was nice, and stuff got done.

As soon as I got home, I picked up Kaylee and we went shopping for a blue and black shirt for her state contest tomorrow.  We were successful, she found a nice black jacket and blue shirt to wear with black pants for tomorrow, and we had a nice time picking it out.  She's pretty good at that stuff, actually.

While we were out, something came up that I sort of had to talk to her about.  There had been a recent string of girls who had been blackmailed into sending "racy" photos in order to stop the blackmailer, who had pretended to be a young teen girl but wasn't, from releasing their previous photos to people like their school principal, teachers, parents, etc.  The age range of the girls most targeted in Indiana and surrounding states?  11-13.  Eleven to thirteen year old girls.  That made me sick to my stomach.  Now, honestly, I have minimal concern that Kaylee would fall prey to something like that.  When we've discussed photos before, she's been very clear in her intent of not doing something like that.  But still, this whole teenage thing is kind of scary.  I've seen quite a few young ladies her age recently fall prey to various scary issues.  So the conversation opened another door, and I told her that no matter what trouble she found herself in, no matter what it was or what she was afraid of, to please know that I loved her and was on her side and would do anything I could to help her, but that she had to come to me and let me help her.  She provided a few examples of "trouble" and asked if I'd come get her and not yell at her, and I said yes.  I keep my promises and fortunately after 15 years she knows that about me.  I told her I'd rather she not get into trouble in the first place, but if she did, she'd better talk to me!  :)

I found a bonus in driving Richard and Ann's car.  It's already comfortable, has an excellent radio/speaker system, and great gas mileage, so I already like it.  But also, the darkened windows, and the license plate, I think makes me invisible.  I like being invisible.  Especially to certain entities.  :)

Tomorrow will be windy but warmer.  Wish Kaylee luck on her performance!

A few shots of the weather/ground on the way to Aurora today.
