Caught Up

I hadn't realized I'd missed so many days here.  Whoops!

Working backwards: Today was beautiful.  SO beautiful.  Almost 70 degrees, windy, around 30 knots much of the day, but the sun was shining.  I could live in these temps forever.  Steve flew with three guys, and I had one.  I enjoyed the day.  When I was up flying, there was a fire in town.  At first I thought the smoke was from a field or something, but instead soon saw it was in the middle of the city--it was a business completely in flames, and even from 2000' I could see the flames shooting out of the roof, and two fire trucks shooting water up at it.  Pretty interesting, I circled over it for a few minutes while my student took some photos and a video.  Nobody hurt at least, I don't think.

Friday we had 40 knot winds.  I had a student but he decided that was a little too breezy for his blood.  Worked for me; while 40 knot surface winds are doable, that doesn't make it fun.  Unless you're in the mood for that.  Which I wasn't, yesterday.

We also had Glenndale lunch Friday...and it was pot roast.  Mashed potatoes.  Desserts.  Veggies.  Salad.  More pot roast.  It was so good I went back for seconds, and I almost never do that.  But it tasted like, it WAS, real food.  And it was warming and healthy and tasty and all-around wonderful.

We got a new mattress/bed!  It has the memory foam, and the directions said to wait 48 hours before sleeping on it to let it fully expand from being shipped.  It was folded in half, rolled tight, and shipped in a box.  A king sized mattress.  Weird, man, but it worked.  Steve had to dismantle the water bed except for the base, get rid of the tubes of water, break down what was holding it, etc.  When I got home I vacuumed out under the area, since it hadn't been open in 20 years, and I was glad to see zero dead spiders (unlike in Kaylee's room behind her dresser where there were like 7 or 8 big dead spiders which is NASTY).  Then we put it back together, maneuvered the mattress in place, took off the plastic, and whoof, up it went.  By the time we went to go to bed, we thought...why not sleep on it.  It looks about fully inflated and ready to go.  So we did.  And I was quite comfy.  Steve's pillow was too low, but he's going to try another one and see if that helps.  Me, I was great.  I slept quite comfortably and well.  We have a cushy topper that will be going on top too, should be here Monday.  I'm pleased with the whole thing.  It feels good having a new set-up in there for the first time since we've been married!  Kaylee went in there tonight to try it out, and came wandering out saying "I'm taking your bed."  Of course, her bed is the same thing...but you know how teenagers are.  ;)

I have a few photos from today, from the fire, and just bombing around, but I don't feel like downloading them.  So...g'nite!  Tomorrow I have a Discovery Flight to give...and the weather looks beautiful.  Only 45 degrees (as opposed to 65 today), but light winds.  Problem for me is that the winds are going to be about 10 knots, from the north, which means I should use Runway 36 at Glenndale, except I'm going to have almost full fuel and 3 people on board the 172, which makes Runway 36 questionable...as is a heavy airplane on Runway 18 with a ten knot tailwind.  We shall see.  Stay tuned for the nail-biting adventures of Laura, the 172 Driver.  ;)
