I added up my logbook, and realized that I had not flown for 16 days. I went back and doublechecked my schedule and my blog to be sure, but it was true. I can't think of the last time I went that long--even when we go to Oshkosh for 10 days I'm flying before and after (and sometimes during). So it was sort of head-shaking funny that I get sick just in time to get busy. :)
I did feel better today, at least. This morning I went to Aurora, IL, by Chicago. When I pulled the 340 out to top it off with fuel for tomorrow's trip, I happened to notice that the courtesy light was on inside. This made my heart drop, because if my battery was dead, I was in trouble for tomorrow. I jumped inside and had enough juice to start it, so I flew it instead of the RG to ARR, to let it charge up, which thankfully it had enough left to be able to do. We are really fortunate that I happened to find that before the battery got down. This isn't one you can jump and go. We would have gotten out there at 6:45 a.m. tomorrow and been hosed on the trip. But fortunately it was found in time, so I took it, and it was a smooth, pretty day to fly. We were home in time for lunch, did that, and then I had students in the 172 until dark. When I got home I was out of energy, but still alive, and at least my nose stopped running like a faucet for the most part. I didn't take any photos because there was nothing interesting to take a photo of today. Pretty blue sky, not a cloud in sight. I did watch the sun go down from the 172, and it was a pretty gold and rust and red color combo that mixed with the runway lights at Kokomo very well. It didn't seem professional to whip out my camera with this particular fellow, so I didn't, but I may have taken a mental snapshot or two for my own enjoyment.
Kaylee's first day back at school was today. She was annoyed because her geometry teacher assigned homework, the only teacher who did today. I told her welcome to the real world, where as soon as you get back from a vacation, you not only don't get a vacation day at work, you usually have to catch up a bunch of stuff too. We have homework too, it's just different. ;)
Ty is off gallivanting around for over a month in Florida, so I flew with one of his students today, and poor Nick tore something in his knee, so I'm taking over his two Champ students for as long as we can continue to fly it, too. Steve is at a CAF meeting tonight, I presume, and Kaylee is dancing around because she just finished her geometry. It's evening now, so it's time for a sick get to feeling poorly again, late evening and first thing in the morning. Tomorrow I'll be up at 5:30 a.m. for this trip. Wish me luck. ;)
