First thing this morning I started off in a flight in the 172RG with a fellow for his first time in actual IFR. The clouds weren't that low, about 1000', mist, light rain, and winds gusting up to 31. It was bumpy, and where we were supposed to go ended up being a problem because of some heavy rain moving through, so we went somewhere else instead. The landing at the other end was almost a direct crosswind at 30 knots, with a really high gust factor, making it interesting anyway. We were in the clouds the whole time, broke out fairly high on the approach, and it all happened pretty quickly. Shot an RNAV approach into Shelbyville, then shot an RNAV approach back into Kokomo too. It was a good day to get some real world practice vs just going under the hood on a nice day.
After lunch the next flight was in the 340, taking it with D over to Aurora. He had a meeting there, and we were dropping the plane off for maintenance too. We were in the clouds the whole way over, and shot the RNAV approach into there. I walked in and another lady there said "Laura! You look amazing!" Why, thank you! lol Then she told me she'd lost 75 pounds over the last 4 years, which made me feel like I should have known that, but I didn't. :o I was there a couple hours, and then it was time for the last flight of the day.
Nathan pulled up in the Cheyenne at Aurora, and D and I ran up and hopped in. It was IFR for a bit, but we broke out and cruised around on top in the sunshine, doing over 350 knots for awhile, home in a flash. We started off doing an RNAV approach, but ended up canceling that and going visual as it was fine when we got there. The winds were still really gusty, and about a 40 degree crosswind at Kokomo. There were no boring approaches or effortless landings today, I'll tell ya.
I thought it was funny that I went from a single piston to a twin turbocharged piston to a twin turboprop. Twas nice!
There is a zombie movie being filmed in Kokomo, and they are having a casting call. It's low budget (you would think "obviously", but hey, Brad Pitt was in a zombie movie so you never know), and they didn't specify ages of actors they were looking for. So...after some thought, I sent Kaylee the link. She responded with this: "What if it interferes with the Spring Concert or DI Globals? I absolutely can't miss those events. If it doesn't I'd love to audition." She sounded so grown-up. I don't even know if they have openings for kids. I don't know that I want her watching the movie after it's made whether she's in it or not. I don't know anything, but...if she can get even an extra part in a stupid B-movie, it'll be experience she can use, and it's right here in Kokomo of all places. So...it's worth at least finding out about.
Here is the sunshine today at FL190 on the way home from Aurora.
