Saturday Kaylee ended up going to a new church youth group with several of her friends, to give it a try. She didn't like this group as well as she likes the one she is going to at Oakbrook Church, and I think it might be a good thing. At one point, the teacher was reading this paper and said something along the lines of "You know that saying, 'Sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me'? You know that's not true. Words can cause a lot of pain and damage." So MY daughter pipes up with "Particularly when you throw the dictionary at their head." Gah. She tells me this, and I'm torn between being horrified and laughing. This is bad because if I'm supposed to be horrified I just failed, by starting to laugh. I'm still not sure if I should have chastised her or high-fived her, because darn it, that's funny...but as a first time visitor to a church youth group it is not the best place/time to show your sarcastic and slightly out-of-the-box side...
After going to the church youth group, Kaylee and her friends went with an adult to see the thriller movie. She came back from that telling me how much Greek Mythology (which has always fascinated her) there was in the movie that other people didn't get, and how it wasn't very scary but there was one part where she saw everybody in the theater jump straight up about a foot. She didn't get home until late, but fortunately she didn't have to get up early the next day for anything.
Sunday Kaylee went to her own youth group, and really enjoyed it. If she was sarcastic there, she didn't tell me. ;) She's already texting with some of the girls from the youth group, and they are making plans for something fun to do next week at group. That's neat...
Today was a beautiful day. I had one flight in the morning in the 180 doing a checkout, and then after lunch I did a little airplane shuffling with 172s. The day was gorgeous, and Steve ended up having several flights today. After I picked up Kaylee from school, I took her to the store to pick up a thank you gift for a little girl who did us a favor, and a few other small things, then ran her to Taekwondo. She helped me pick up the house, and then she was in bed by 8:30. She was just a tired kid today, which isn't a good sign. When your night-owl 13-year-old chooses to go to bed at 8:30 on her own, you know she's not feeling well. Hopefully the extra sleep will do her well, as she has a tennis tournament tomorrow and Wednesday both.
So you know my iPad got cracked pretty thoroughly at Oshkosh. Not too long after that, the cover I had on my phone which gave me double battery life, died, and I couldn't even charge my phone at all in the cover, so I had to take it out. I didn't get a replacement cover. A couple of days ago my phone started to fall, and rather than let it gracefully fall, I swung for it, hit it, and slammed it into the ground forcefully enough that it shattered the back of my phone. It's not just cracked, it's shattered but still stuck together, mostly. It leaves little glass or plastic shards behind when you set it down or anything, and you sure don't want to push on it. But you know, the phone is still working. The new iPhone comes out in a few weeks, so I'm hoping shortly thereafter the model below that gets cheaper than it currently is, and that this one holds on long enough. Today I was at Walgreens too, and found a cover for my phone, one of a few choices for the "old" 4S, and when I put it on hoping it would keep all the broken places protected and together, it looks like a brand new phone. There you go, what you can't see can't hurt you, right? ;) Seriously, I'm hoping it will keep on ticking for awhile here.
I tried not to talk about the Ray Rice video of him punching out his girlfriend in an elevator, but they just showed it again on TV while I was typing this. Nobody, I don't care if they're a 300 pound football player, nobody is as big of a coward as someone who has to hit children or women a fraction of their size. I'm not satisfied with him being fired from the NFL. I won't say what would satisfy me.
However, I don't want to end on *that* note! The Super Moon was something else tonight. I about couldn't drive straight because I kept staring at it. :) Beautiful, powerful, magical looking moon...
The rest of the week gets really busy with flying. I've got somebody all day most days, and then Friday I have a trip to Michigan. That's why I spent so much time today cleaning, organizing, doing laundry, getting supplies, getting everything done I could, so that when we're all really busy this week (Steve and Kaylee are too, and I'm not sure how we'll do a few of these), at least the basics are covered...
