Sunday

This morning I watched "Rush", a movie made off of the true story of the rivalry between two Formula One race car drivers in the 70s.  It was actually a pretty good story, and I can see why they turned it into a movie.  Truth is often more interesting than fiction.  There was part in the movie where one of the drivers, who was disowned by his family for doing what he loved instead of following in their wealthy footsteps, said this after he found happiness, love, and success for the first time in his life: "Happiness can be the enemy. It weakens you.  Because now you actually have something to lose."  It sounds cynical, but I know what he means.

Well, our girl's back, a little tanner, a little dirty, a little tired, but happy.  She looks like she grew another couple of inches taller and about another year older in that 10 days.  :)  She had quite an experience, even driving 40 hours round trip in a huge van stuffed with people.  Dealing with about 15 people in close quarters for 10 days straight and everybody coming out of it ahead of the game is a pretty good thing.  I had read on Facebook where the mom in charge had talked a couple times about people being cranky--when I asked Kaylee about it, I was happy to hear that she wasn't part of it.  She WAS part of helping a waitress who got overwhelmed at the hotel, her and her friend G got up and helped the lady clear tables for a few minutes, and ended up getting free food the next day for being helpful.  She said "I really tried to be patient and not get upset even if other people were.  I try to be good around other people."  I said "So you save the bratty for us at home, huh?"  and she laughed and said "Well, I guess, kind of, sorry."  I said "Well, you have to have some safe place to be a bugger, and that's with us. Briefly."  It's good to have her home.  The universe is back in its proper condition.  :)
