That's been the weather--bi polar. We woke up this morning to snow on the ground and 34 degree temps. After the 70 degree days we've had, it was a rude and unpleasant thing to see and feel.
Kaylee is still hopping. Today she woke up nicely for school, I picked her up at 3:30 and took her to her voice lessons. She finished at 5, and I took her home so she could work on her homework for an hour before I drove her to her play practice. She got home from that around 9 pm, and then had to finish her homework. Part of that included three things I had to do. I had to get some white bread and glue ready for some project she's doing at school, I had to find a photo of her, a photo of Nathan, and a photo of her and Nathan together for the "Living Biography" project she's working on, and save them off onto a flash drive, and I had to find and order a poodle skirt outfit for her spring choir concert, which is "Grease". Yes, "Grease". That will probably make for a cute production, and most of us 80s ladies will enjoy it. She hasn't seen the movie yet, said she wanted to. I watched that movie so many times with Brenda V. when I was a kid that I still have every line memorized, and yet I'm not real eager for Kaylee to watch it. She's going to try out for the solo in "Summer Nights". She makes me smile, because she heard the mom of a girl who has won a talent contest category say "We need to get you a really cute poodle skirt since you're going to have the solo", and Kaylee said to me "Hey, how does she know she's going to get the solo? She doesn't have it yet! I'm kind of offended by that!" The kid who wouldn't sing in the car in front of me a few months ago is now trying out for the female solo role in her school spring production. :)
Either Steve or I (or both) spend all afternoon/evening from 3 pm until 9 pm running Kaylee to or from something. Right now she has play practice every single evening. On top of that, on Monday and Wednesday she has Taekwondo (she's going for her orange belt next testing time by the way), and Tuesday and Thursday she has singing lessons. And school. Can't forget school. Gah.
I had one flight this morning, with the young man going for his re-do on his checkride. Again tomorrow's winds are forecasting to be really high, so I had him go today when the winds were also high. We started off with the winds right down the runway, then I had him move to the crosswind runway with a 70-80 degree crosswind gusting up to 20 knots. Figured if he could do it then, he could do it on his checkride with no more than a 40 degree crosswind component. It's iffy. You only have one chance to get the landing type right or it's a bust, and when it's 25 knots of gusty and windy, it's hard enough to just land when you're brand new, let alone get fancy with soft or short field techniques. *sigh* I have to be gone tomorrow on a MBros flight too, so I won't be able to be there and see how it goes. I hate that. I don't know if he'll postpone or go for it, it depends on when exactly the winds start kicking up or forecast to kick up in the morning. I wish they were meeting earlier. While I'm wishing I wish tomorrow would have normal winds, like 10 knots. ;) We'll see...
Tonight was a CAF meeting. I dropped Kaylee off at play practice at 6:15 then ran down to Sheridan to hit the meeting. I was 15 minutes late, but so was the president, so that worked out fine. ;) Lots of people were there, including two of the Yak guys, who were also there interested in the C-45 (Twin Beech) that the CAF is applying for. I'm torn on the Twin Beech. I really want to fly it. I would end up being an instructor in it. Even so, trying to get that done along with other things I'm trying to get done...you can't do everything, especially without winning a lottery. But an opportunity like that doesn't come up all that often and there's very little worse to me than watching opportunities die or go elsewhere. I'm busy enough already. There's a lot of paperwork and red tape. I haven't even gotten approved to teach in the PT yet and that's been a pain. The airplane itself has some things that make me flinch when it comes to...trustworthiness. But the opportunity is interesting, not just because of what plane it is but because of how the set-up makes it possible for regular folks to be able to participate in flying it. They plan on taking it to shows, doing a rides program, all that good stuff. You could haul some decent numbers of people and stuff with you in that plane. It would be fun. But one step at a time...first they have to get the sponsors together, then they have to bid for it, then they have to be approved for it, against a couple of other wings (chapters) that are also bidding for it, then we have to get it here, then we have to get an instructor and check pilot here for it, and THEN we'll be on our way with it. Again, we shall see.
