Guess what? It was cold today. And it "snowed and blowed" a little more too. We canceled Kaylee's birthday flight because of today's weather, and canceled getting her friends together for lunch because of it too. Most counties around us are in "travel emergency" status. Our county isn't, but a lot of the roads aren't great, so we just called it all off. We have a lovely lemon cake that we want to share with some folks to help celebrate her birthday before the cake gets stale. :(
Steve went out to the airport to help Nathan fix the Aerostar's heater, which ended up being a bigger project than either of them wished for it to be, but in the end they got things worked out for the most part.
Kaylee and I went out to Steve's cousin's house and hung out for the afternoon. After a bit his cousin Dave broke out some weapons, and we took turns on them. Kaylee and I just fired the SKS. They had a target set up on a tree down there, and everybody took turns at it. Kaylee did well with handling the gun. Keeping her finger off the trigger until she was ready to fire, keeping it pointed down range, not jerking the trigger, etc. She didn't hit the target, but I think after watching and talking to her a little, I may know what she was doing, and if we can get some one-on-one time for her to really be able to practice, she'll have it. Me, I haven't fired an SKS or anything like it in years. But, I still got it. I hit the target close to center, and never missed. Of course I quit after just a few shots, because after I was running that kind of record I didn't want to ruin it. ;) Hey, I found out what I needed to know, which was that even with contacts in (I've never gone shooting with corrective lenses or glasses in/on before), I could still hit what I was aiming at. ;) I do need to get more practice in though, get more fluid and speed up my time in between shots. I think some of us are going out to AE's to go shooting whenever it warms up, so that'll be good...
I only took a couple pictures of Kaylee, and I was just on my cell phone camera, so I couldn't see that I'd caught her blinking/moving her head before she looked back up and steadied and took the shot, so it's not the best looking photo, but you get the general idea anyway. :)
First, here she is with her beautiful flowers from Grandma Chiles...
And then here she is with her cousin getting her set up...the target is on the tree to the far right.
Last but not least, getting ready to take her next shot...
