Kansas City

I'm here in Kansas City at the moment, watching it rain like a banshee out there. When we got here it was 300 overcast, 2 miles and mist, so we got to shoot the ILS down. There was some rain up by Kokomo when we left, but we beat it out other than a little on the way west, and there was this big blob of weather moving into Kansas City, but we beat that in. (And yes, of course I had a back up plan if the weather beat us to this airport.) I'm glad that it worked out without any additional complication though, because this WAS a mandatory bid meeting, so he had to be there at a specific time. Our backup plan would have still let him make it, we planned for that of course, but this was better.

I got the weirdest, wrongest clearance this morning out of Kokomo. I originally wrote it all out here, but I've already told the people who know what it means about it, and the rest of the blogosphere world doesn't care what my wrong clearance was.  But the controller was cranky, annoyed, and, well, wrong.  I don't much like being snapped at, at 6:30 in the morning in particular, but I can live with that a little better if it comes with an actual valid clearance.  He was a real jerk.

I also had something go wrong on our instrument approach into Kansas City today.  Something...glitched, I'm not going to get into this one either, but it was odd and I couldn't then and still can't now figure out what the heck that was.  It was helpful to have two pilots up front, especially with the ceilings down to 300'.   It was just an all-around odd day; two situations I hadn't ever seen before, both happening in one day.

At noon I met up with a friend I met on the internet, and we had lunch nearby.  It was just a quick one hour lunch, but it was nice to see her.

I got home around 8 p.m., after a quick and uneventful flight home, and am short because I'm actually going to go to bed early tonight.  I may or may not wake up in the morning.  ;)
