Circle of Life

Kaylee's school hosted a Variety Show/Talent Show tonight from 7-9 pm.  It was $4 per person to get in, and Kaylee begged me to take her. When we got there, she saw a row of her friends, and she asked me if I minded sitting with her friends.  Of course I don't mind that, but I didn't know how they'd feel about that.  When I got back from the restroom and came up, Kaylee introduced me to her friends, who were all very polite, even said "Wow Kaylee, you look so much like your mom.  That's a good thing!"  These Junior High girls were friendly, looked me in the eye, smiled, conversed...my faith in Junior High girls has been a little restored, actually.  They also cheered on their classmates, even the ones who didn't do such a great job.  I saw some adults smirking about a couple of the acts, while tween girls clapped and cheered.  One of them leaned over to me and said "She lost her voice, and she's still not well yet, that's why she's not hitting the high notes."  When she finished, they all clapped and cheered her on.  You go, girls.  I'm also a little impressed that there was a row of 7-8 tween girls, and my daughter didn't feel weird at all having me sit with her and them.  She would have sat with me alone before sitting with them and ditching me to my own devices.  That was sweet.

Unfortunately we came home, having had a very nice time, and Kaylee found her fish dead. She was pretty upset, said the fish had been swimming and eating each night, and she thought it was getting better.  Then we had the conversation about why everything has to die, and how she doesn't get what the point is.  She had to go to bed early though, because tomorrow morning we have to get up early and drive to Columbus, Indiana, almost 2 hours away, to participate in a Taekwondo tournament. She's also fighting off either allergies or a cold/virus.  Poor kid.  Good kid.
