Tuesday's Back

I spent a couple of hours this morning on paperwork for one of my students' upcoming checkride.  After two hours we still weren't done, but as close as we can get until we're done actually flying this week.  I check all the endorsements, make sure all the cross-countries were to the appropriately long places, that all the tower controlled field solo takeoffs and landings were done, that all the various hour requirements were met, fill out the 8710 form, help them get signed up on IACRA, verify their medical and student pilot certificate haven't expired, yadda yadda.  It takes longer than you'd think.

After throwing out food from the fridge that had gotten a little too old after being gone for 10 days, and going shopping to replace it, I worked on my Oshkosh pictures, and finally finished getting them downloaded and looked at.  I got sloppy by the end, because I had over 400 photos to look at, but at least they're done.  Now I just have to get them up in a timely manner.

Kaylee got her school schedule today, and I got her registered.  Science is her first class, followed by honors literature, etc., ending in choir.  Yes, choir.  The girl won't sing in public, but she chose choir because 1) She didn't want to spend an hour in a study hall to get all her homework done and 2) Her friends are joining choir.  I told her she may regret this one because she'll have to do all her homework at home instead of having a chance to get it all done at school, but she insists thus far that she's happy with that choice.  We shall see in a few months.  Maybe she'll love choir and it'll help her get over her "thing" about singing in public.  Fairly close to her age I was singing and playing the piano in front of groups for church/school stuff now and then. Picture THAT one, pilot people.  ;)

Here's a pretty cool story.  A twelve-year-old boy outscored 50 adult pilots in a "Top Gun" contest covering 1200 miles, 80% of which he hand flew.  (Of course he had a certified pilot in his right seat, who said he mostly felt like he was along for the ride.) At the end, he's quoted as saying “It's like a new world when you're up above,” Alex said. “I don't know, it just feels, it feels right.”  Yep, he's got the bug.  Pretty cool!
