Childhood Revisited

I visited Lincoln, Nebraska today.  Nathan took off in the Cheyenne at 8 a.m., I took off in the 340 shortly thereafter, and it took him just under two hours to get there, while it took me three hours. I flew over the city, looked around, we even went downtown for lunch, and I didn't hardly recognize anything.  I know I lived there for a year, and visited there multiple times over the years, but it's all completely unfamiliar to me. I couldn't even remember what side of town I lived on or how to begin to get there. That's kind of...disturbing.  I did have a really good steak and blue cheese wrap for lunch, though; too bad Grindstone Charlie's doesn't have that.  ;)

Other than waking up to 1/2 mile and 200 overcast, the rest of the flight was completely benign and normal, which is great.  The fog layer was thin; I was out of it in under 1000', and it was blue skies the rest of the day...

Kaylee's dress needs some alterations made.  It needs hemmed up a bit, and it needs the bust tightened/changed.  So I called Judy's recommendation, but that lady is moving and too busy, so I called the next lady, who is swamped with bridesmaid dresses right now, so I called the third place, who couldn't get it done within two weeks, so I called the fourth place, whose number was disconnected, so I ended up with Davis One-Hour Cleaners and Alterations.  They said they could do it.  I didn't get a great fuzzy feeling when I had to remind the lady behind the counter that I needed to tell her what to DO with it, and even at the end she didn't get any good measurements for the bust.  We'll have to see.  Now I have to find a mask.

Afterwards Kaylee and I went to Scoops for some ice cream, through the drive-through window.  As I was parked there with my window down, the song "I Would Walk 500 Miles" by the Proclaimers came on, a fun song to goof off to.  So I start singing it to Kaylee, who says "Mom, STOP."  I said "Why?"  She said "There are PEOPLE over there."  Me: "So?"  Kaylee: "They're going to think you're WEIRD!"  Me: "So?"  Kaylee: "Don't you not want people to think you're weird??"  Me: "What do I care? I don't know them from Adam.  Maybe *I* think *they're* weird!"  Kaylee: "What's so weird about them?"  Me: "Well, for one thing, that kid just scratched his butt. In public.  That's weird.  And that guy has a terrible hairstyle.  And that lady's pants. Maybe I think that's weird."  I sing the song again and Kaylee slaps her hand over her eyes and says in a low, depressed voice "That's it. I'm scarred."

Kids are fun.  ;)
