Green

I was up early this morning for a flight out of Kokomo.  When I went to bed it was calling for 1000 overcast and high winds, so I expected to cancel the student and sleep in, but I woke up to just fine VFR, so away we went for an hour and a half of refresher. Slow flight, steep turns, stalls, engine outs out by the fields and a couple in the pattern down to a landing, etc.  I was out at the airport until about 2 pm, then came home to read, but couldn't concentrate on my book, so decided to catch up on a couple of old movies.  You see, I've managed to make it to 40 years old without seeing some of the older flicks out there, so today I watched "Soylent Green" and "1984" back to back.  I didn't really duplicate the theme on purpose, they were just two that were available that I hadn't seen yet.  That wasn't the most uplifting afternoon I've ever spent.  ;)  Actually, neither one was that exciting.  I might have made it this long without seeing the movies, but it's impossible not to know the punchline of them anyway, and in both cases the synopsis, the knowledge of the basic idea was better than actually sitting through the 2 hours of it.  I knew before I watched "Soylent Green" that it was about overpopulation and dwindling resources and that they ended up using dead people recycled as food for the living.  Two hours later, that's exactly what I can tell you about the movie now, too, other than Charlton Heston looked young and fit again.  But...I can't stand not finishing a book or movie I start, even if it's worse than these were.  Besides, they did tweak my claustrophobia of tight crowded dirty noisy trapped places and make me glad for my ability to go sit in the country and...breathe.  And I think I'll have fresh crisp salad for lunch on Monday, too.  ;)
