Well, so far into 2013 I'm doing just fine on being more in charge of my days vs letting them run over me. It's been a whole 4 days. Only 60 more years to go. ;)
It was bitter cold today, having a high in the low 20s and a low in the single digits, with winds gusting up around 25 knots at times in the afternoon. That wind just cuts right through you. I drove out to the airport, and some of the back roads still have ice on them. I open my car door and get hit in the face with a blast of icy air. I pull the plane out of the hangar and get it stuck in the uphill snow/ice ramp. And I thought to myself, self, I hate ice. I hate driving on it. I hate walking on it. I hate flying in it. I don't even like ice skating. It's cold and miserable. It's out to get you in every format. I used to get a kick out of driving or landing on ice, kind of a challenge thing I guess. I was an idiot. There is nothing good about ice other than keeping my drinks cold. Still gotta do what you gotta do, but I don't have to like it. ;)
I timed my student this morning so that I could arrive at the fried chicken place dead smack at 11:30. As usual, they were about 7 minutes late, so I picked up the cat food and some other things we needed at the same time, and arrived at Glenndale at 11:55. Got home to bring Kaylee lunch, unload the car, and pulled up to my 2 pm lesson at 1:57. I was on a ROLL, man. The roll ended when the plane had a maintenance issue, but it wasn't great weather conditions for what the fellow was trying to do anyway.
Got my pictures uploaded on my site, got some correspondence set up to mail tomorrow, got some pictures sent off, got some things scheduled for the upcoming week, got my logbook caught up for today, even got some stretching and treadmilling done. When I got everything else done I needed to, I checked in on social media last but not least. I have some emails to catch up on too, but I'll probably do that over the weekend. For the rest of tonight I'll put away the computer, though I can't stay up too late, as I'm going to a CAF meeting in the morning. I just got my "letter of approval" to fly the PT-26, on the condition of approval by the local official CAF CFI. He only has until the end of February to get it done for various reasons, and then we'd be in a bit of a pickle, so we're trying to meet up early next week to fly and then see what he wants from me to sign me off.
I plugged in everything I ate today to see where it fell, mostly out of curiosity--and I didn't eat rabbit food. I had fried chicken, mashed potatoes, bread and butter, sushi, cereal, some chocolates, pretzel chips, yogurt, etc. At the end of the day a message came up and said "You are not eating enough calories. Your body will think it's in starvation mode and slow down your metabolism. You need to increase your intake." I thought...hey, I like this program. ;) What it should be telling me is to eat more vegetables. It did point out the disparity of carbs to everything else, with a quiet litle pie chart. So I sucked down a V8 and took a multi-vitamin and called it good. ;)
There's a news story tonight that kind of made me smile. A burglar broke into a woman's home in Indy while she was sleeping on the couch. She had a shotgun in the back, but didn't know how to use it-so instead she grabbed a mean-looking BB Gun. The burglar didn't know it was a BB Gun, so she backed him out of her house at gunpoint and into her yard where she yelled for her son, who lived next door, to call the police. She then said she was going to learn how to use the weapons, and she wasn't going to be caught out again. She was all angry and feisty about a guy coming into MY home without MY permission. You go girl! Probably better to not grab a loaded shotgun if you don't know how to use it as you wouldn't want it taken away from you and used on you. Worst he could do with a BB Gun is shoot your eye out. ;) (Or beat you with it, but that's not in A Christmas Story so it doesn't count.)
A load of dishes and a little clean-up here, and the day is done and well spent...
