It was a hot one, but it was a good day to hit the Ozark Folk Art Center. It's a little hard to describe. It's like an old-time community, with a bunch of log cabin buildings filled with small businesses set up with people dressed often in period clothing, demonstrating how to do these old world skills, kind of like Connor Prairie, only modern, too. The one I liked the best was painting copper with fire. Copper pieces heated up with a little blow torch until they changed colors, put in patterns, and set in those colors. Beatiful, rich colors, all done just with fire. Pretty cool. We watched glass creations being made, pottery, candles, knives, baskets, clothing, quilts, you name it, there was a shop on how to do it. Many of the shops were air conditioned too, so that didn't hurt. ;)
The last thing we did there was go to their adventure area, where they had a zip line, rock wall, tree top adventure (walking on swinging ropes and branches amongst the tree tops), and a free fall thing that dropped you 35 feet down like a parachute drop. Kaylee did the zip line first, and then the drop. Then me and mom went up and did the zip line too. It was really pretty in between the tall trees like that, and you're up over a small ravine. Great scenery-I'd have loved to take my camera with me, but for some reason nobody would let me. ;) Some photos were taken, but I don't know how well they turned out yet or if they will ever see the light of day. ;)
Dinner at JoJo's on the River, a drive up around the mountains, and then it was time to go to a concert. His name is Mike Snider, and he was *really* funny. It's a bluegrass and comedy thing, he tells stories, sings, plays, and has a fiddler, a bass player, and a girl who plays I think a bazooki. The show lasted about 2 hours, with a 15 minute intermission, and they kept us entertained the entire time. I didn't expect that--I thought one hour would do for me, but it was great, we loved it...
It was a fun day! A wee bit hot down here at 104 or so, but very enjoyable!
