Kansas

I waited until Kaylee was out of school so I could pick her up and say goodbye, and then I headed west to Kansas. I was only able to even go to Grandma's funeral thanks to flying. It is over 11 hours, not counting stops for food or gas, construction, traffic, etc., if you drive. It was less than 3 hours flight time. If I'd have had to drive, it would have taken a day to get there, a day to be there, and a day to get home. Flying makes it possible to be here...

One of my bad dreams last night included a part where a man and his son were on an airport ramp running toward me, and I was in a twin. Today when I arrived at Eureka, in a twin, a man was on the ramp with two little girls that came running out. Made me flinch as I relived the rest of that awful dream I'd had again. But back to reality--the girls were excited to see a girl pilot, and when they saw what a big plane I was in, they thought it was really cool. The one little girl already says she's a pilot and is going to be one when she grows up too. The gentleman, when I pulled up to the fuel pump and shut down, leaned in and said "Well, they didn't tell me you would be showing up in a fair-to-middlin' airplane!" He was impressed by the Aerostar. :)

There were just a handfull of family hanging around tonight, eating home cooked food and talking, and tomorrow is the funeral, after which at some point I'll head home...it always feels like home out here...
