About 3-4 of my mornings each week will be starting out like this one, in the Cub. We kept the door/window pinned open, and as you can see it was a beautiful morning. You can also see Ty and a student rotating in the Champ off the grass strip just under the wing of the Cub in the above photo. My student is very excited to be learning to fly, so that always makes it more enjoyable.
Next up was a quick-ish flight in the "Happy Champ". This Champ belonged to a lady who put a sticker on the tail that said "Ladies Love Taildraggers", and it's still there even though it now belongs to a man. :) Chuck, me, Nathan, Kevin and his daughter will be flying that while the Citabria is getting torn apart and put back together, so this was my first flight in it to get acquainted. I sent a message to the former owner that I flew her plane today, and that made her smile. :)
After lunch I took a student in a 172 over to Muncie to do tower controlled field takeoffs and landings for the first time. It was a little busy and a little overwhelming, and the winds over there were weird, variable and going from calm to 18 knots, switching directions, and a little problematic. By the time we left there, I think his words were "Good grief, I need a nap." :D That was about the opposite of taildragging out of a grass strip, and not as much fun, but they have to do all of it, so hey. One more trip to Muncie for this fellow and I'm hoping to hit night (you know, at the time of year when we can't even start the night flights until about 11 p.m.) and then checkride prep.
When I got back to Kokomo, we waited to hear from a student on a checkride, and finally got the good news that we have a new CFI in the fold. Whew, that one was a work out just getting it done! But thankfully it's over, and he passed. We hung out and chatted with him for awhile when he got back, before getting home and working on airshow-is-this-weekend stuff.
So what did Kaylee do? Today she read a book. Two books, actually. In her pajamas. All day long. But don't worry, tomorrow she's going over to a friend's house, and this weekend she'll be at the airport running around all day for two days straight getting plenty of sunshine and exercise. A day of reading never hurt anybody, anyway. I seem to have turned out okay, right?? ;)
