Lockdown

I was sitting at home working on something when I got an alert that there had been a shooting near downtown Kokomo, that three people had been shot, and initially the report was that the shooter was captured in the library and they were still searching for his gun. Later reports were that the shooter is still on the loose. Then that another suspect was taken into custody. I'm not sure what the truth is at the moment, whether they got the guy or not. But he shot 3 people in the head today, and a fourth person was shot in the head yesterday in the same area. "Only" one has passed away thus far.

So, today when I picked Kaylee up from the bus stop, she crawled in the Jeep and nonchalantly said "Oh, we actually had lockdown at school today. Some guy was shooting people." So I asked her what that meant at school, and she said that basically they just locked all the doors to the school and locked the doors to the classrooms and then just had school anyway. They didn't know why until somebody on the bus ride home found out and told them. Tonight Steve's phone went off, and it was a recorded message from the school, alerting the parents that they'd had a "Functional Lockdown" today, and spelled out that this meant they continued school, they just locked it down due to the shootings in Kokomo and not being sure whether the subject was on the loose or not. Then the principal ended the message with "God bless you and your family", which is still wild from a public school. :)

What a thing, to have to have lockdowns in schools. To the kids it was just an interesting addition to the day, at least...
