It started when I had done a bunch of laundry and had a lot of clothes to put away, my least favorite task. I took all those clothes into my room, and looked at my closet, spilling over already, and I shook my head and decided just to bag up the hanging clothes that I never will wear again. I got done with that, and I had a really large pile. So then I went through my sock drawer and got rid of everything but about 10 pairs. And my closest was still all sloppy with t-shirts stacked up on the shelves below, so I went through all those, and I finally got rid of a bunch of t-shirts that meant something, came from places I'd been or had good memories with them, but that I'm way too old to ever wear again. NOW it's looking good in there. There was one area left-the shelf on top of my closet that held jeans, sweats, pjs, etc. I can't really reach it, so Steve got everything down, we went through that, refolded everything, and my whole closet and one messy drawer are all organized, cleaned up, picked through, hung up, and looking good. I have seven bags to take to Goodwill, and 2.5 bags of trash. I also went through Kaylee's bathroom closet and got rid of sheets and bedding she'll no longer need. I did five loads of laundry and three loads of dishes (they weren't stacked up on me that bad, we just had some clean stuff we wanted to run through with vinegar and shine up a little bit). Steve did a bunch of decluttering and organizing in the kitchen, too. Getting rid of baby dishes that Kaylee still uses but doesn't need to, tupperware, bottles and glasses, etc. What was I planning on doing today? A little laundry, and sitting around and watching football and relaxing. I'm glad we ended up doing what we did, as, while I hate housecleaning, I also can't stand clutter, and it's really nice to have seven, well, really almost ten bags of it heading out of my house. Mucho Better.
Hey, speaking of football, the Colts didn't lose today! Of course, they didn't win, either, but at least it's the first week in ten weeks where they haven't lost. ;)
Kaylee was cracking us up today. Steve and I decided that losing all the TV channels like Nickelodeon and Disney probably wasn't the worst thing in the world. Kaylee has nothing to watch on TV, so she's taken up reading. And that works for us. Right now she is reading a series called "Warriors", and it's about cat warriors from another time, a sci fi thing, which is right up her alley. So today she finished the last half of the 2nd book in the series, then immediately sat down with the third book, which as of 8:15 p.m. here she is almost done with as well. The books have about 300 pages each in them, and they aren't large print. She's whipping through them at a rate that is starting to remind me of someone... ;) Some of her books are in her AR (Accelerated Reading) program, and she gets points for them. The first two "Warriors" books counted, but the third for some dumb reason does not give her any AR points. Steve wanted her to complain or ask or do something to make them accept it for points too, but she just blew him off and said she doesn't CARE if it gives her points or not, she won't have any trouble making her points this month, and she just wants to read this one for pleasure anyway. Yep, definitely reminds me of someone. Heh.
Kaylee's also handled a lot of interruptions while she was reading today a lot better than I do. When I'm reading, I get cranky when I get interrupted, because I'm mentally into the book, not in my living room. So about the 8th time I interrupted her, I half expected her to get irritated, but she didn't. She pleasantly did what I asked then got right back into the book. One time though, because of a conversation we'd had, I told her that she needed to eat a little more fiber in her diet, what that consisted of, why, etc, and she was looking at me funny, so I said "What??" She said "I'm sitting here reading about a woman who was just buried under a mud slide, she's probably not going to live, I'm all caught up in her story, and then suddenly you're talking to me about fiber. There's just something...wrong there." I had to start laughing, because she's right...
It was a good, accomplished day. I like those days. I wish a wild hair would present itself more often!
