Spit

Right now it is spitting snow, and that's about how I feel about it, too. I am going to have to adjust my thinking about winter one of these years, because it's not overly healthy of me to have such a long-term, negative, angry reaction every time winter starts swinging around again. Some people today were excited about hearing Christmas music in stores and seeing snow spit. I just got really irritated. I don't WANT winter. I want Fall. Or Spring. Or Summer. Anything but a 4 month period of freezing gray, black, white and brown. Shoveling snow. Ice-covered roads and runways. Penetrating icy winds. Dead air. Flying becoming a majorly unappealing chore. I'm not helping myself out here, so moving on. ;)

I did forget to mention a little amusement about one thing they changed in the movie "Footloose". In the original (which I think had better acting, by the way), like in the new version, at the end, Chuck and his boys pick a fight with Willard in front of his girlfriend Rusty. He'd promised her he wouldn't fight, so he stood there while they pounded on him until finally she yelled at him to kick their butts. A fight breaks out between the "good guys" and the "bad guys". Here's where the two movies diverge. The original has Ren and Willard fighting off Chuck and his four cronies ("Yeah, you're a real hero when it's five to one!")while the girls stand there and cheer them on. This time, Ren and Willard fight off Chuck and a couple of his cronies...while the two girls, Ariel and Rusty, beat up the other guy or two. So all that to say I had to smirk at the modernization of the movie--this time they let the girls fight too. Unfortunately though they still had them fight like little girls, squealing and flailing around hands and purses and such. Please. Besides, the few girl fights I...er...saw, there was nothing delicate about them in the least. And if you're going to be a girl in a prom dress fighting a high school farm boy, you'd better at least do it properly. ;)

Kaylee's school has an online math program that they work on called...Apagea...I think it's spelled. Anything they do on there is a bonus/extra, and they earn points for everything they do, which they can then turn into prizes, gift cards, etc. Kaylee told me today that originally she was going to get a gift card to a department store, but instead she has decided she would like to turn all her points in to "Make A Wish" and donate the money so that a terminally ill child could have a final wish. She said that if she was to have one final wish if she was dying, she'd just want her cousins and family to come be with her, that otherwise she can't think of anything she needs, and she'd like to help other kids get something special. It is an option for the kids to do that, and I thought it was sweet...

Why is it that 30 math problems can be done at school in an hour, but at home it takes three? I think we need an isolation chamber, a timer, and a table of desserts behind glass that you can't get to until your math is done with a 100% correct rate. The longer you take, the more goodies disappear. I bet she'd be done in 20 flat. ;)
