The Wind At My Back

It was a howling Thursday, all right. Temps in the 70s, but the wind was going gangbusters, along with wind shear at 2000' and moderate turbulence. That took out my three primary students quite thoroughly, so they canceled one at a time. Steve let himself get tossed around the sky in the morning, then decided he had enough when his internal organs started hurting. ;)

When I picked Kaylee up from school today, I took her shopping to pick out a couple of pairs of new pajamas and a hair dryer. I don't own a hair dryer, have never used one, and she would like to try to increase her hair's "body" via hair dryer. So tonight she took an extra shower just so she could try out her new hair dryer. ;) We had a good time, then met Steve & Chuck at Culvers for an early dinner. Kaylee wanted some ice cream, so that seemed like as good a place as any to get some.

Tonight we had the monthly EAA Chapter meeting, talked about the schedule for Spring and Summer as far as events, air shows, breakfasts, meetings, all of it. It was kind of exciting to hear of everything going on, and there is something almost every single weekend from early April on through October thus far. Awesome.

After we left the EAA meeting, Steve and sort of I had a little adventure. I was in the Jeep right behind him in the Suburban. We came to a stop sign, and all of a sudden a car slammed into another car in the intersection in front of us. A silver car was hit so hard that it spun around backwards and halted off the side of the road. For a good 20 seconds or so, nobody moved. Then suddenly the silver car accelerated rapidly, turned around sharply, and raced off! Steve pulled up to make sure the other person was okay, then went after the silver car. Me, I'd decided to be a good mom and go on home. But as I was coming down the same street they went, I saw the silver car coming out of a side neighborhood. Hmmm. He pulled out behind me, and I slowed way down to keep him behind me. I started to call 911, and then I saw Steve pulling out of the same neighborhood behind him. I figured Steve had gotten his license plate number, so when the silver car turned off to the left to perhaps get away from my keeping him back, or to get away from Steve coming out of that dead-end loop road, I let him go, and kept heading home. I was watching in my rearview mirror though, and I saw Steve turn down what I thought was the wrong street, which meant he was still trying to follow the guy, and was going to lose him. So I spun the Jeep back around and went down the same road that guy had, but by now I'd lost him. I figured Steve would keep looking, and with Kaylee needing me, I came on home. In the meantime, Steve was familiar with that area, so he had gone down a different street in order to intersect with the guy, and he did. He followed him to an area on Dixon Road, until the guy parked his car by a field in the area by Arby's back there, and apparently got out and ran into the field. Steve had called the police, and waited in the Suburban blocking the exit. The police came pretty quickly and surrounded the area, got Steve's statement and sent him home. They said they'd call him tonight on his cell phone, but they haven't yet. The car was empty when the police arrived, but they got the guy's stuff that was all left in there. The SUV actually hit the silver car, although whose fault it is, I couldn't see, but we thought it kind of looked like the SUV's fault. I can't say though, but if it was, speculation is that this guy in the silver car had been drinking and knew he would be toast if he was caught, even if the accident wasn't his fault, so he ran. It was our little adventure for the evening--we had a hit-and-run drive caught in between us for a moment there. His bad luck to collide with a lady in an SUV and run for it right in front of us. ;)

Today being St. Patrick's Day, Kaylee and I both wore green shirts. Hers was much nicer than mine. :) One of the teachers came to school and insisted that since she was not Catholic, she refused to wear green. This confused Kaylee, leading me to explain some of the history, and ending with "however, you don't have to be Irish, or Catholic, in order to have fun with the holiday." Sheesh, people!

So, here we are in our green shirts, wind-blown, after shopping. Happy St. Patrick's Day, even if you are German and Baptist, like us. ;)
