Kaylee's school started Terre Nova Testing today. It is the private school sector version of the Indiana State Testing for grade-schoolers. The kids were all told to pack lots of healthy snacks, and they got started today. Kaylee came out of it saying she thought everything went really well for Day One, and thinks they will be all done by Wednesday...
What else went on today? Let's see. I flew for 1.6 in the 172 today. What else? Oh yes, the Mustang needed run up after its oil change and checked for leaks before being cowled back up. Nathan needed to leave and head back to the office, so as he left he just told me to go ahead and do it. I am such a delayed reaction kind of person, you know it? ;) I of course was quite delighted to do so. I put a pad under my rear to boost myself up a bit because the Mustang doesn't exactly have a crank to move the seat up and down, forward and backwards, and Nathan happens to be 6'4" or so tall and I'm over half a foot shorter with shorter legs. I don't care about the seeing out (that's what s-turns are for) as much as I do about reaching the brakes at full deflection. Even WITH the "booster seat", I was at the end of my reach with full brakes. But it worked. It took a little bit to get started and running, but I got her going, after which I actually whooped and threw my arms up in victory. ;) I sat there a bit so Jon could sneak in close and look for leaks or issues, and when he didn't find any, I had him pull the chocks, and I taxiied on out to the ramp. The boss was gone, why not go ahead and steal it for a little while, right? ;) I was just doing a little taxi practice, unlocking the tailwheel and swinging around, getting a feel for it from the front. After the first tight turn on the taxiway, I was good to go. Better visibility than from the back of the T-6, could use something to get me closer to the rudders, but all in all, not bad at all. I spun around a few times on the ramp, then taxiied back in, ran it up, did a mag check and other things, then shut her down so Jon could change the oil. I didn't really feel like shutting it down, by the way. I also had my camera with me, but I did not take one single photograph. I could have when I got out to the ramp and stopped, but this is what I mean by delayed reaction kind of girl. I decided to just pay attention to what I was doing and not mess with my camera. Stopping and taking pictures was an idea I actually dismissed, because I was focused on the mission, which was not goofing up, since I am not on the insurance. I didn't relax until I was out of the plane, safely shut down, and on my way to pick up Kaylee from school. At this point I got the adrenaline rush that I was too busy and focused to feel earlier. How many people get to fire up and taxi around a Mustang? Man. Chuck and Jon took a little bit cellphone videos for me. They know how much it means. What an awesome thing. :)
I'm sorry, did anything else happen today?
Who cares. ;)
