A student of ours was having an issue getting a medical, so after she got stuck, I put her in contact with a volunteer with AOPA who is known to be The Guy to go to for medical issues. He even told her that he was going to Oklahoma City (home of the FAA) that week and would go in and "inquire" about her case with them personally. He didn't have to go that far, because before he left, two nights ago, she got a call at 10:30 at night from him saying her medical had been approved, and she should have it in her hands in 10 days or less. This was pretty awesome, because she pretty much thought it was over, couldn't figure out what the FAA wanted, and enjoys flying so much that sometimes she has trouble sleeping the night before a flight from excitement. He knew exactly what they wanted, got it, gave it to them, and boom, done. Now she can fulfil her dream. :)
I had some wild dreams about falling out of the sky last night-they woke me up around 4 a.m. and I couldn't get back to sleep after that. My sleep cycle sure must get light around 4 a.m., because if I have trouble sleeping, it's always around then that I wake up. Usually I can get back to sleep, at least. Thankfully, once I got Kaylee ready for school, Steve took her while I crawled back in bed for about an hour and a half, then up to get in some exercise and get moving on the day.
Speaking of exercise, a friend has asked me to join them in running. I laughed the first time, but she came back and said she was serious, would start slow, etc. I don't know what is up with running, but quite a few people I know have taken it up. I couldn't even run a block right now, and even back when I was in good shape, I was fast, could beat most people in sprints, but I had no long-distance ability. I am Not a runner. She didn't even say "jog", she said "run". She runs 5-10 miles a day. Right. I have weak lungs, always have had. Even as a young teen doing a 1-mile run I didn't survive intact. I ended up walking most of it the first time, and the next time when one of the girls in my class made a smart-aleck remark about creaming me, I ran the thing just enough to beat her, and promptly threw up behind a building, then lay down in the grass and tried to breathe for awhile. Ah, yes, running... :O
We did have a little fun at lunch though. Dale brought these "grilled pork tenderloins" that he accidentally, um, "overcooked" I guess would be the word. They were little flat dehydrated disks of the most dehydrated meat product I've ever seen. Chuck only took a few bites before ditching his in the trash. Nathan got a couple bites, and I made it halfway through mine. Steve had put two on top of each other into one sandwich, which was just Double Dehydration. They don't make enough ketchup, mustard, or mayo to save those things. We entertained ourselves by coming up with alternative uses for them. Oil absorbers under the T-6, burn barrel material, colon blockers, all sorts of stuff. It's good to laugh if nothing else during the day, right? Dale was a good sport about it too. :) For some reason he couldn't find anyone to take home leftovers, though...
