Kaylee & Flights

Kaylee didn't make it to school today. She woke up in the middle of the night, unable to breathe, unable to sleep, even with a breathe-right strip on her nose and medication. She was miserable, got no sleep, and when she finally did pass out this morning, I didn't have the heart to make her get up and try to go to school. She's blowing her nose so much she's bleeding. So today she rested.

Yesterday when we picked her up from school, her teacher said "She may not be feeling well, but with her it's hard to tell because she's always so bubbly." This is true--even when she is fairly sick, she is cheerful. The only thing that seems to stop her is when she runs fevers over about 102. Then she'll get cranky and quiet and quit eating and drinking, and that's when she lays on the couch and you know she's in bad shape. But she's not there. No fever, just really bad sinus congestion, poor girl.

Our modem pooped out again, so Kaylee was even less thrilled to be stuck at home without being able to play with the computer. She asked me permission to use tanning lotion on her legs, because she doesn't like her white legs and wanted to see if it would help. She doesn't know what white legs are--she can at least tan in the summer! *I* put the shine on white legs. ;) She said the same thing to her dad, that she didn't like her white legs, and he made a comment about how that's how it begins, the people who think they're ugly when they're not (because of a TV thing that was on), and Kaylee rolled her eyes and said "Daaad. I'm not going to be crazy about it or anything."

I got two flights in today; as frigid as it was, it was at least clear. One flight of nothing but stalls. In every configuration. One after the other. Non-stop for over an hour. The second flight was a night flight. Also quite frigid, yes! We went south to Columbus, Indiana, right past Indianapolis, which is always a nice view at night. I ended up losing my panel lights, so the only thing lit up inside the airplane was the digital display on the radios, couldn't see any of the instruments. I had brought the iPad along, tossed into the back seat turned off, and that thing has a serious glow on it even in the dimmest setting, so I brought it up to my lap, turned it on and aimed it at the panel where it provided a nice enough glow to be able to see the instruments just fine. Much better than the ole flashlight in the teeth trick. Although you don't need to see most of those anyway in VFR conditions, even at night. But hey...
