Going Nowhere

I am supposed to be on my way back from a trip to St. Louis Downtown Airport right now, but instead I'm sitting at my computer watching the rain turn to sleet turn to snow. You know, at 6 a.m. I almost made the call to take this trip, but didn't because 1) I just had a niggling disquiet about the radar and 2) the passengers we were going to have would not have appreciated the moderate turbulence that was reported along the entire route, along with the low-ish clouds and the heavy at times rain. It should have been doable as it was forecast, just not a pretty day to fly, and they didn't need to be terrorized or sick. Icing was forecast in some areas and not in others, but the main government icing page I pulled up said it shouldn't be a problem for our route at our altitude. It lied. Right now there is a report for SLD icing, which is "Supercooled Large Drop" icing, also known as freezing rain or freezing drizzle, also known as a Very Big Problem. I'm glad I'm sitting here watching it drizzle/snow instead of being in it, or waiting it out somewhere else. Usually forecasters get it wrong so that it's actually not as bad as they said it was going to be. Sometimes though...sometimes they get it wrong in the other direction, just to keep you on your toes.

We went to Lowe's today, where Kaylee picked out 100 different color swatches in an attempt to decide how she would like to redo her room. She picked out blues, purples, yellows, bright greens and bright oranges, hot pinks and reds. She is spinning out on it, having a terrible time deciding what she wants...but one thing I'm sure of--it will be bright and cheery. ;)

I had to laugh at an aviation article today by Paul Bertorelli titled "Careful About What?". See, I have a bit of the same problem, only not as all-encompassing as his. The basic idea is that it irritates him when people tell him to "Be Careful" when he's going flying, because that's obviously the plan anyway, right? Where we differ is that I don't mind it if my loved ones tell me "be careful", because, well, that's just a shorter way of saying "Take care, I love you, come back to us", you know? But a lot of times, when other people say it, I admit the first thing that pops into my head is "Wow! I was planning on being completely reckless! But now that you said that..." It's along the same lines as people who tell me to be extra careful when they go up with me...as if I'm any more willing to crash when they aren't there. I'm not concerned about my own safety or family, but now that I have you on board, wow, I'd better try to not have an accident! I know, sounds sarcastic, but, well, okay, it is. Sorry. Don't worry, odds are that if you know me well enough to read this blog, and the words "be careful" come out of your mouth towards me, I'll take it in the spirit intended. ;)
