Kaylee did great on her guitar lesson today. Her teacher is pleased and so is she. Kaylee wants to play "Jingle Bells" on her guitar while two of her classmates sing it, for a talent show thing at her school next Tuesday. She's nervous. I'm a little nervous because she can't put singing together with her playing smoothly just yet, and they can't practice at school. We'll try to practice at home though. Kaylee also had a boy at school today telling her that she was really ugly and the slowest runner in the school, poking at her most of the day. Now this sets me off, I have to admit. I...can't handle somebody picking on my daughter. Just can't. It makes me feel very violent and unpleasant and un-Christian-like. She was a little bummed about it, but I honestly think it bugged me more than it bugged her, and you have to realize that, as an adult. She, like everyone, has to learn how to handle this kind of thing on her own, like it or not. I ended up telling her to remember that her number one power against bullies was confidence. Show them that you don't care at all, laugh at them, tell them "whatever, you doofus", and walk away, prove that they have no power over you, and you beat them. KNOW that you are not what they say you are, and do not own or believe whatever labels they try to put on you. Blow them off and know who you are. She's getting better about that. If she can learn it by age 10-11, she'll be better off than many of the rest of us were at that age, that's for sure. (And yet I still want to go have a conversation with a 9-year-old boy.) I also told her that a lot of times, boys who like girls but aren't getting a reciprocal 'liking', tend to "pick on" those girls. She said "eeew! He's about the last person I'd like like that!" I told her that's the point. Hopefully it'll be awhile before she knows what I mean there. ;)
We had a windchill of below zero today, and yet Steve flew anyway. The planes started okay and all went well. Tomorrow is supposed to be the same, and I've got lessons scheduled from 9 a.m. solid through dark, with no breaks at all for food or anything else. I suppose that's a good thing for the most part, but lunch would be nice!
This morning Deenie the Elf was waiting for Kaylee at her breakfast bowl, which excited Kaylee to no end. She's been carrying her around all day ever since. Elf magic always wins!
