I was on the ramp at Kokomo Airport at the literal crack of dawn today, and it really
was a beautiful morning. There was a pretty amphib sitting there on the ramp with the sun shining on it, so I had to take a few photos of it before loading up my passenger and heading off to Ohio.We had decent winds going out and coming back both, which makes for a nicer day. It was so pretty out I didn't even file IFR, and we just bombed over on our own. We ended up at a little airport near Columbus, Ohio called "Fairfield County Airfield".
I was surprised by how busy this little airport was, how nice it was inside, and how
many activities they obviously had going. There was a "Warbird Dance" at a hangar, there was another party going on this weekend, and while I was sitting there, planes came and went pretty steadily. The building itself had a really nice sunroom facing the ramp and the runway, set up with cafe style high tables, and on one of the tables was a chess set with glass pieces. Clear vs. Cloudy glass, which fits for aviation too in a way. :)As we were inbound for Kokomo, I heard a bunch of folks I knew leaving Kokomo. Ty in the Viking, somebody not on the schedule in the 172, our dinner companion last night in his twin, a friend from Iowa in his Rocket, and as I was taxiing in, the amphib, who was there to visit with Nathan, was taxiing out to go home too. These pretty days are hard for people to pass up, which is good!
Me, I've got billing to do again for the end of the month here, and tomorrow somebody dared to schedule me on a Saturday at 8 a.m. for flight lessons, so what they see is what they get. ;) In the meantime, here's another of the amphib (lands on water or land) I took when the sun got a little higher...I would love to take that for a spin/splash...
