We got up early this morning and just started evaluating the campground conditions, the aircraft parking conditions, the weather, and basically the whole ball of wax. Steve and AE along with Zak and his dad Steve decided to head on up and get set up, while Nathan and I waited to see if we could get the planes up there. It wasn't too long before we got the news that the aircraft parking area just was not going to be looking good, and Oshkosh closed the airport for warbird, GA, vintage, homebuilt, etc. arrivals. Well, that took care of that.
Nathan, Jamie, Kaylee and I started winging our way north in the Lexus, giving up on the planes for now. It only took us five hours and 25 minutes to get to Oshkosh, which is not bad at all! The ironic thing was that it took us longer to get into our campsite due to backups than it took for us to get through Chicago. We had no problems in the city, but we sure got logjammed at the campground entrance.
Reports were accurate: Oshkosh is WET. Our campsite doesn't have standing water at it, but a lot of them do. We've got soggy grass, and keeping the inside of the trailer clean will be a challenge, but Steve has come up with a system for shoe removal and non-mud tracking. So far so good.
We went to Red Robin, had a huge dinner, came home and sat out for awhile, set up our trailers, and crashed for the night. So, Oshkosh Day Two actually got us to Oshkosh after all. :)
