Tonight when I picked Kaylee up from Awanas, the leader pulled me aside and told me that Kaylee's Pinewood Derby car actually qualified to go to State finals, that the church had already paid for her slot, and that if we could make it, she could compete in the finals in South Bend, Indiana next month. You go girl!
It was 70 some degrees today at its warmest, breezy but warm, and when we got home I got out the sprinkler, Kaylee donned her swim suit for the first time this season, and played outside for almost an hour, taking the cats out with her, though not into the sprinkler. ;) Tomorrow is her last day of school, and she's on Spring Break for over a week. She can't wait!
Tomorrow is April Fool's Day, and Kaylee keeps wanting to fool her teachers into thinking something horrible happened to her. Today she told me she wanted to show up at school with hair all mussed up, missing one shoe, black marks on her face, and tell them she was mugged. Uhhhhh... :O I'm not so sure that's actually funny. Her class has an April Fool's to play on the Principal. The teacher is going to call the principal down to their class claiming that everyone is misbehaving, they'll all pull a card when the principal walks in, and claim April Fools. (Pulling a card means you go from good kid to probation kid to in-trouble kid, depending).
Kaylee is reading a Judy Blume book that I'd had since I was a kid. What I didn't remember was that "Blubber" has curse words in it like "damn" and...female dog...that Kaylee is coming out of her room to point out to me. Fortunately they aren't there a lot, unfortunately they are there at all. But what I do like? Kaylee is turning into a book worm, reading late at night when she should be going to sleep, reading bigger books and getting into them. It took her awhile-I didn't think she would end up a book worm, but she is doing just that lately. And while I frown at her and tell her to go to sleep because it's so late, in secret I smirk, because I used to read by the light of a street lamp on the corner, or a flashlight under my covers, and I am secretly enjoying the fact that she's getting more into books. On the way to school today we talked about how fun it is to disappear into the world of reading, a world separate from the "real" world, from our world, and have great adventures without even leaving the house. She's "getting" it these days. :)
