Winging Down

Steve took a flight this morning then went off to work on a computer while Kaylee and I stayed home and got ready for a trip. Packing bags, doing laundry, getting the cat stuff ready for us to be gone, getting the house ready for us to be gone, watering plants, unplugging Christmas lights, getting trash taken out, all that fun stuff.

Finally it was time to go. A check of the weather showed that it was going to be a beautiful flight, with nothing exciting on the horizon, so I filed a flight plan and we loaded up and headed south. Kaylee sat in the back and had her Nintendo DS plugged into her headset so she could play "Style Savvy" and hear only it in her headset, while Steve and I had the Garmin 696 playing tunes in our headsets while we got there in 1 hour and 22 minutes instead of 6 hours and some minutes. It's such a rough way to travel, don't you think? ;)

I was flying to start with, and I took off, leveled off, and was hand flying because it's been a long time since I've gotten much flying in myself and I figured I needed the practice. I looked at the clock after awhile and it had only been about ten minutes since I last looked, and I gave the plane over to Steve for awhile because it just really wasn't that hard. ;) He did the same thing, flying along, but it was as smooth as glass up there and the plane pretty much flew itself, so he gave it back to me for the last 30 minutes or so. What I could use is a nice actual IMC flight...but this time of year that probably means icing, and I don't really like ice in little airplanes, so I guess I'll vote for severe clear when we come home, too.

We arrived just a few minutes later than planned thanks to a small delay back at Kokomo Airport, and Lon was waiting for us. We got the plane secured, locked, covered, etc. and then went on in to Franklin. Kaylee was super excited to see her cousins, and we had only been there for a few minutes when Grandma & Grandpa Stants arrived from Florida too. Kaylee's been having a great time already. :)

After dinner we sat in the living room while T played "Silent Night" on the guitar, then we all sang along for the second verse. Everyone just hung out and caught up and enjoyed each other's company, up until Steve started telling stories about me getting speeding tickets and stuff. ;)

A is in college with an engineering major and is considering getting a master's in business after the bachelor's in engineering. M's a Junior in High School this year, and T & R are 13 and 12. Amazing!

As usual I'm the last one awake, but I should probably get to bed myself...
