I'm thankful that late last night Kaylee turned the corner, and woke up this morning after a full night's sleep feeling perfectly fine. No fever, no feeling sick, plenty of energy. How does someone go from lying on a couch in a daze with 102 fever after throwing up repeatedly to running around the house saying "I'm bored!" She didn't even sleep in this morning when she could have. Kids are amazingly resilient.
I've been thankful for a good teacher for Kaylee these last two years. Unfortunately I learned tonight that tomorrow is this teacher's last day with the class, as she's taking a position in Indianapolis. Kaylee doesn't know yet, and her teacher will tell all the kids tomorrow at school. They then leave for Christmas Break and won't be back to school until Jan. 4th, with a new teacher. (I don't know who yet, or how we're going to find another teacher so fast.) Kaylee is going to be devastated. She doesn't even handle the end of a school year and saying goodbye to her teacher very well when she knows it's coming for months. I'm not telling her tonight or she won't get to sleep, but tomorrow is her class party, and we baked reindeer cookies to take, the kids get to go in their pajamas and bring a fuzzy blanket and it's supposed to be a fun day. Poor kids. :(
I was supposed to have a couple of flights today, but the first called in sick, so I just ended up with one down at Sheridan this afternoon. I pulled the engine (not for real, just pulled the power back to idle) at various points in the pattern and had her come in and do "dead-stick" landings, did go-arounds and tried "The Impossible Turn" (engine quits after take off and people try to turn around and make it back to the runway they just left). She's ready to solo the plane, just needs to get her pre-solo written finished and we need to find a day with agreeable weather coming up. :)
Now MY stomach hurts. Ow. Signing off...
