How I Know...

...the day isn't going to go as planned:

  • Because I wake up at 1:30 in the morning to the sound of retching.

...we have a pretty amazing kid:

  • Because in the middle of the night she threw up a couple of times and had digestive issues the other direction too, and she didn't come into our room and wake us up for most of it. She just took care of it and went back to bed and we didn't even know some of it until morning. How many 8 year olds do you know that do that? Poor kid.

...Kaylee's not feeling well:

  • Refusing to eat, afraid to eat in fact, not moving off the couch, not interested in tv or talking or anything but lying there slightly dazed with a cat around her feet.

...I'm slightly selfish:

  • When she's cuddled up next to me, breathing on me, I'm trying not to think "I don't wanna get sick too!" I did go take a vitamin.

---------------------------------------------------------

Steve and I had several flights each today plus I was supposed to meet up with a friend, and the weather is finally agreeable, but Kaylee's got a fever of 101.6 and climbing, says her eyes hurt and is dizzy, and she just went from pale to flushed, so she's obviously home with me. I can get her to suck on ice cubes and drink water so far, but she's not having anything to do with any form of food, and just the smell of chicken noodle soup had her retching, so I didn't make her eat it. I'm glad she's not vomiting or dealing with the runs so far any more today though. When I called the school to let them know she wasn't going to be in today, I was half thinking it was something she ate because she had no fever yet, but that was put to rest when they said she'd be the third or fourth child who woke up vomiting last night and is home ill-with fevers. So tomorrow we'll swap off and Steve will stay with her while I try to get my flight folks in on the last decent day of the week.
