Last night while I was talking to our visitor at the hangar, Kaylee was riding around on her scooter. She was going so fast at one point that Steve opened his mouth and said "Kaylee, you'd better slow down or" and the words didn't finish leaving his mouth when she wiped out, hard, between the hangar door and the Mustang tug, onto the concrete floor. It was a narrow little path there, she was trying to shoot through it at high speed (again), she probably jerked when she tried to slow down or when she heard Steve calling out to her, and she went down, twisting and hitting her knee. It was actually a hard enough fall that she couldn't move her leg for awhile, and it still pains her to twist it in a certain direction. There's a bruise there today, but even though the bruise is small, I'm keeping an eye on that knee. She's got full range of motion and while I think it's a little swollen, it's not badly so, and she can use it, but she definitely went down hard on it.
As I suspected, today would be the day to hang out at the airport and maybe even get some flying in, but I need to get some work done at home today. I wrote a letter to try to help keep a grant that is being proposed in California towards SMA research and got that sent off in time, placed a couple of orders and sent out a couple of disbursements towards SMA Support, got the house & laundry back to a reasonable condition, got the kid working on her room and bathroom, and next need to work on business cards and billing entries. (Meanwhile I was watching the Colts game, but they're creaming the Rams, and while I'm glad for that, I still switched to the Steelers/Viking game, which is at least a game.)
Kaylee is looking forward to trying out a new hip hop class I found. She's wanted to do hip hop for two years now, but the only class at her dance school is on a Saturday at 9 a.m., which is just not going to work for us because of things from our schedules which have us often gone on weekends to needing at least one morning where the kid can sleep in and relax and not have something going on for the day. So I'd looked around at other dance schools to see if they had a hip hop class she could attend, but one was also on Saturday morning, and the other was at the same time as her ballet class and had very strict rules, more for the dancers who want to do that for a living when they grow up. I happened to stumble across a sign for a hip hop class at a church, which piqued my interest for two reasons. One, because I had just given up on finding a class, and two, because if it's at a church, it's probably not going to have some of the moves and music that some of the other places have had that I wasn't too fond of for (my) little kid. Okay, and three, because it's cheap. ;) So I talked to the person in charge; it's not a formal class, it's a mixed-age class for fun, and Kaylee is looking forward to giving it a trial run this week...
A lady named Mrs. Brandt passed away last night. She had double pneumonia, ovarian and uterine cancer. She had already beaten breast cancer years ago. She was one of my high school teachers, the mom of one of my classmates, and we all knew her. She was a kind, gentle, sweet woman who had her own quiver-full of kids and grand kids. I know she will be missed by many in the church and of course by her family and friends.
Well, I guess I'd better start the next load of laundry and give up the computer for awhile for Kaylee to make her blog entry before I get back to working on the billing and such...
